LG 65UH6030-UA lightning strike, no S/B light, no backlights, no OSD

A few weeks back I got a call from a guy who said lightning had struck close to his apartment building, and ever since the TV would not come on. He said a total of four electronics items close to the TV were lost at the same time. He just wanted to get rid of it, and I'm always game for that!

So finally today I had a chance to check it out. When it's plugged in to the wall there is no stand-by light. When the power button on the TV or remote are pressed the S/B light flashes three times and the Optical Audio light comes on.

Shining a flashlight upon the screen reveals no image on start-up or when the TV is on. Press the power button again, the Optical Audio light goes out but the S/B light does not come on.

Here's the pinouts and corresponding voltages found:

    Pin name……………….v TV off……………………..TV on

    MS…………………………. 0v ………………………. 0v
    GND
    13.2v……………………. 7.7-7.9 unstable ………13.2v
    13.2v……………………. 7.7-7.9 unstable ………13.19v
    GND
    PWR_ON............... 0v …………………….…. 3.37v
    PDIM1…………………… 1.84-1.87 unstable … 3.28v
    GND
    13.2v……………………. 7.81-7.96 unstable … 13.2v
    13.2v……………………. 7.81-7.96 unstable … 13.19v
    13.2v……………………. 7.81-7.96 unstable … 13.19v
    PDIM2………………….. 1.84-1.87 unstable … 3.28v

    LED+………………………………………………………… 326
    LED-…………………………………………………………. 162
    LED+………………………………………………………… 326
    LED-……………………………………………………….… 162

I tested both backlight strings with the tester and they do illuminate. I also tested the T-CON fuse, it is good with voltage present on both sides. Furthermore there appears to be signal voltage at the T-CON LVDS side test points as well as output voltages present at the T-CON FFC side.

Detaching either FFC from the T-CON to the Source driver boards results in a white screen on the corresponding side of the screen.

Powering up the backlights with the tester while the TV is on and there is no picture upon the screen.

So can anyone help me with troubleshooting this further? I'd appreciate it!

Looks to be the main board issue, more likely the surge went through the HDMI port.

Would this affect backlight operation? Also, what is the MS pin on the Power Supply and its function?

As far as I can tell the PS is working ok so yes very likely HDMI entry point for the surge

What is the number on IC801, that would help to determine the function.
The pin looks more like M5 than MS

I'd love to tell you the number off IC801, unfortunately its covered with a thin shellac and obscured. Any suggestions on how to remove that coating?

I have urethane grade reducer for auto body repair....but it eats plastic quick.

Just try some alcohol, that usually works, you may also need to look at an angle to read the number.

So if you're getting a white screen then the backlights are on and you are just not getting a picture, correct?

Sorry, no that isn't correct. I have no image on the screen, the screen is black and I have no backlights.

go to the usb connector and look for 5v. pull the shield / heat sink on the main board so you can see whats up there.
