    Sony KDL-50R550A 5 Blink Error

When Tv is first plugged in and power button is pressed it will turn on. After a second or two the tv will then shutoff and give a 5 blink error. I am trying to figure out if this would be an issue with the t-con or the panel itself.

We need to see the whole backside of the TV showing all the boards, that will be a starting point.

Download the service manual. A 5 blink error is a T-Con error code, This is from one of the manuals.

            1) Check the fuse on the T-CON board.
            2) Check to see if you do have 12V at both ends of the fuse on the T-CON board with ref to GND.
            3) Try having one ribbon cables between T-CON and the LCD panel connected one at the time (make sure to unplug the TV from the outlet first) to see what happen.

Re: Sony KDL-50R550A 5 Blink Error

I tried unplugging the t-con to the panel ribbon cables one at a time and turning on and it repeats the same error. Press power, backlights turn on for a couple seconds and then shuts down to the 5 blink error.

With checking the fuse. (Guessing it is the component above the chip and close to in between the top connections that connect from the t-con to the motherboard) I tested and received nothing out of it. Assuming i did it right.

Yes that is the FUSE (F1, 3A/125v)
I tested and received nothing out of it.
What voltage do you measure on both sides of the fuse? It should be around +12v.

I received no voltage out of the fuse with it turned on.

just too clarify you are using the tv chassis as ground for your multimeter set on dc volts then testing both sides of the fuse.

So you have NO Voltage on BOTH ENDS of the fuse, If this is correct.
Locate the test points on the main board, Check for 12v on TCON_12V and LVDS_VCC

Yes, i ground to the chassis and the test with the multimeter set to 20v dc and i get nothing out of both sides when i have the tv powered on.

When testing the test points shown i am guessing with a multimeter set to dc and grounded?

It would seem that you don't have +12 volts from the power supply, Check on CN6401 pin10 of the power supply, this should be +12 volts
If you no not have +12 volts, from the power supply, Un-plug the tv and check R6536 resistance (white ceramic 0.1Ω)
