    LG 49UH6090 back cover removal.

Hi all, so I'm a pretty handy guy in general and love to tinker/fix things. I've done so with a few tv's so far and re-purposed them to family members.

My latest is I have an LG 49UH6090, the backlights have turned blue and slowly getting darker. From some reading I've done the indications are that I need to replace the backlights. That doesn't look too daunting to me and I have the backlights to install.

Then I tried to take the back cover off this thing. I have every screw out (and feet) and it damn near feels like I'm going to break the back panel in order to get it off. I can't find a service manual anywhere on this. So my question to the collective is how do I get this back cover off. Are there hidden clips along the sides? If so how do I disengage them (i've tried some gentle prying to no avail).

I've attached an image of the back, the yellow spots indicate screws I removed (legs are off when I try to remove just on for the picture ) I have scoured the tv for screws and can't find any others..

Some are taped down pretty good, they use a plastic spudger tool, make sure you didn't miss any screws in the power plug and mainboard area.

so it was a series of clips. I had to pop the first one toward the bottom a bit harder then i liked using a small flat head screw driver. After i did that the rest you can get.

There are a series of them running up the side. I was just afraid I'd damage it as it took a bit more force then I like to use on electronics. But no damage yet.

        That'll come later...

I'll take a pic of the clips just in case someone else runs into this.

Yep, you have to open from the bottom edge and then work your way around.

            thx Budm.

I think it was one of those things where I knew it had to be a clip, but was worried it was some other trick and I was gonna break something as I did have to use a bit more force then I like.

That said, of course I get my panel apart and the LED strips I have are not the right ones. Guy told me if they weren't the correct ones he'd let me return them, they came out of the same model tv, but my strips have 8 LED's in a joined A/B stip, the ones I got from him have 9. oh well off to track down some other ones.

When you try to get the replacement LED strips, you should make sure that they are made for the LCD panel model number since same TV model may not use the same LCD panel.

You are of course correct. I happened upon a good deal, didn't have time to tear the TV apart to verify the part. and I asked the guy and he said he'd take em back if they were incorrect. Just stinks that i have a torn apart TV and have to wait on new strips. but is what it is.

as an side, I can't believe it took me this long to find this forum. I have many more questions coming

                  Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

                  by mrdevil
                  Hi all,

Wanted to share this as I couldn't find anything on the internet about this problem, so pulled one apart and found the problem myself. Years ago I bought approx 20 or so Crest Smart Home Single Power Adapter smart switches - small 240v Tuya-compatible (rebranded) smart switch devices with power monitoring, which Big W had on sale for half price. Paid $7.50 each for these, and they've been incredibly useful for turning things on and off remotely... and monitoring how much power each device uses.

However, after about 12 months, I had a number of these stop working...

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...
