    Re: Vizio M43-C1 No Backlights

Got a Toshiba 43l621u with broken screen.
Took good screen from M43-C1 and put it into Toshiba,
Problem solved, much less hassle than dealing with Vizio main boards.

Just want to thank all the great contributors to this site for such excellent detail. I had a Vizio M50-C1 that my son was about to trash so I decided to try and revive it. The behavior was that the TV would turn on, then after a few minutes, reset and then pickup where it left off (on a Roku stick). It began to do this intermittently, then more or less constantly.

After vetting the power supply and thinking it was OK, I moved on to the main board. I was fascinated to read all the threads on the Ball Grid Array (BGA) process and the negative characteristics of the lead-free solder balls used in the C1 TVs. It's an old TV, and was on its way to recycling, so IMO it wasn't a candidate for the more professional reflow service. I decided to give the home oven bake a try. I settled on a 400°F @ 10 minutes method, with a gradual ramp up to the full 10-minute heat at temperature, and a long cool-down in the oven to ambient temperature. It worked! It's at least useful as a diagnostic tool, even if it won't persist long-term.

During my investigation of the PSU, I ran into the issue so many of you did, with the six points on the CN9102 connector labeled 12VDC but reading 19VDC. All I can say is that after getting the TV operational, I went back and re-read those points - they are all still at 19VDC. So I assume that the board is indeed mismarked.

I did find a link for the power board general schematic at
      https://elektrotanya.com/715g7732-p0...wnload.html#dl

At any rate, I had a lot of fun during the repair, and learned a lot. Thanks to the Badcaps community!

        VIZIO M557-G0: Backlights or ???
        by bpcannan
        'Morning,
I get sound and picture when powering on the TV and its stays that EXCEPT that the left half of the screen will dim every few seconds then return to normal while the right side of the screen performs as designed.

Did the soft and hard reset options pulling the plug, using the reet option in the vizio menu to no avail.

I checked the mainboard - found some popped capacitors so replaced it - but that did not change the situation.

I checked the t-con board. It is getting good power. Then I removed one ribbon cable to see if I could isolate...

        Vizio-D50u-D1 Pulsating Backlights
        by csmith
This Vizio came in the shop with no backlights. Replaced all the strips with replacement from Shop Jimmy. Set now has backlights but lights pulsate on left side. Half the screen brightens up then goes to normal then repeats.
Am I looking at a defective strip? Thanks in advance.

        Replacing backlights in Vizio V755-J04
        by x_orange90_x
I've had this monster for several months as I've hesitated to order backlights for it. Finally did order them and they are due to arrive tomorrow. Besides having ample space to work, are there any recommendations for working on such a massive screen? Should I remove the panel by myself or would 2 people be a better choice? I bought the double-cup suction cups from Harbor Freight and have been using them for the last few repairs on smaller screens. They are far superior to the single cup orange ones I used previously that would often let go without warning 😱.

        I have not replaced...

Vizio E55-E1 bad backlights or bad inverter?
        by x_orange90_x
I just got this tv today and it appeared to have no backlight on. After taking off the rear cover and checking again in the dark I can see that MAYBE one quadrant is lit.. But still it's quite dim. I was going to check the LEDs with my tester, and I found LED 1 and LED 2 + pins on the wire from the inverter, but I couldn't identify a ground. Nonetheless I tried using a mounting screw on the inverter board and also the chassis as ground but regardless my tester reads 300 which is what it reads when there is no voltage draw.

I don't know how exactly to test the inverter itself. Is it...

Is it possible to upgrade from a Vestel 17MB97 main board to a 17MB110 Main board?
        by cheeky2
I suppose the real question is whether the existing pinouts from ether a 17IPS71 psu are cross compatible with a 17IPS12 psu? If they are then the exchange of the main boards should have no issues providing the screen is compatible with both main boards. Obviously you can change the screen configurations easily enough (providing you have the correct files) for the main board. Why may you ask would I do this? Well a lot of the smart features are no longer working on a Hitachi 48HBT62U main board I wish to give it a new lease of life!
Obviously the same LVDS connector for the screen connection...
