Re: Sony KDL-460EX500 Totally Dead - With Standby

There are two resistors off each gate, R6117/6118 (10Ω) R6111/6112 (10KΩ) R6111/6112 are between gate and source, so if the fets are shorted you can't check the resistors properly.
If the 10Ω resistors are ok likely the rest of components in the gate circuit are ok.

So, replacing the resistor and the 2 FETs as you suggested did the trick. TV has life. However the picture is all messed up.

When I first turned on the TV, it came up to this screen attached. Subsequent on off just back light came on. While it's on with just backlight, I disconnected the LVDS (cable from main to TCON) and reconnected it, and the messed up screen appeared again. TV is upside down in the photo

      TCON or Main board?

            I think your model is 46X500: https://www.sony.com/electronics/sup...x500#downloads

Have you tried going into the service menu or into factory mode? Also try changing the picture sapect ratio, [WIDE] key on remote.
This fault does look like it is on the main board and not the t-con

Thanks for the firmware. Updated it, the process worked out, but the result is the same.
I haven't tried getting into service menu - the content on the screen is not really legible to make any sense of it. Just garbage on the screen basically. I tried the aspect ratio - no change

What source are you using and have you tried any other input? if you are using a hdmi source can you try a different resolution?

Maybe try cleaning and resetting the tcon ribbon connectors, not to vigorously they can be delicate and reset lvds cable. If no joy, I would probably throw another mainboard at it if they were reasonable in price.

Looks like the 32, 40 and 46's will work. https://www.shopjimmy.com/sony-1-857-593-31-a-board.htm

New main board took care of the problem. TV is happy again. Thanks for the help.

This is my first attempt at troubleshooting a board like this, I know I could just buy a new board but I'm curious to figure out how this works. I've been testing different components in the evenings this week and I think the problem is with the IC failing to start up for some reason. When the board is plugged in there is no standby voltage.

Then today it randomly sprung to life like a zombie but shortly died thereafter. I have no idea why it would have done that and its the first time I've seen it running. I discharged capacitors on the board last night, then it was sitting today....

Greetings to all, a while ago my TV was dead, it didn't turn on and the standby light was off, the next day it is working. But these days it no longer wants to turn on, I did some troubleshooting, I disconnected the main board, I checked the voltage on the backlight and there is 400 DC, when I connect it again the main board the voltage drops, in all that troubleshooting, miraculously the standby light comes on and the TV works. After an hour I check and test, I turn on the TV, the Stanby light flashes 3 times and it...

                            Hi,

I’ve got a Sony KD-65XE8596 here that has no standby light coming on. I’ve tested the power board with the test meter, the TV needs 3.4 for the standby but only getting 2.4. Anything that I can change/check on the board to get it working? Pictures of the board are included.

                            cheers...

Vizio D50u-D1 Dead Set No Standby
                            by fharris1977
Hi. I got a Vizio with no power or standby, and won't turn on with remote or button. I checked the voltages on the connector and all read 0.00V or nearly 0(0.050 ON/OFF pin). None of the pins are labeled STB for standby although I do see some 5V pins. Other than the obvious standby led, which isn't coming on, is there a way to check for standby voltage on this PS. I'm trying to see if my problem is the PS or mainboard. Some Vizios I have fixed with no standby led me to think it was the PS but it turned out being the mainboard. Any experience with this set would be greatly appreciated.

I have got a Sony HCD-BX7700dbi that isn't worth a lot but I'm keen to learn how to repair and would appreciate some help with my train of thought. The protection circuit is kicking in and the standby light is blinking. It goes into protection mode within a second of powering it on.

So far the relay on the power board that enables the main transformer clicks on and then off when powering on the unit. Looking at the schematics, the permanently enabled power rail called 'unreg sub' provides about 13.5VDC. Where the power comes into the main board on connector CN303, there is a diode...
