Vizio M422i-B1, blown main caps, the plague or something else?

Today I bought this Vizio M422i-B1 with the complaint of white smoke coming from within the back of the TV. I found the two main caps are blown on top with a trail leading away from them. Even with this jacket the TV still works, turns on and otherwise functions normally.

My first impression when I saw the caps was “not original”. I could be wrong on that…..but they are rated at 220V/120uF.

So my question, is this capacitor plague related or should I be looking for a reason they blew?

The caps are bad for sue but I do not see any liquid coming out on the top based on the pictures, I would say just replace the caps. BTW, the power supply does not have PFC Voltage booster so 220 ~ 250VDC rating caps will be fine.

Thanks budm, I will order those caps tonight. One more question, the caps have some kind of white paste/glue that hold them to the board. I need to get me some of that. What is it and I'm sure DigiKey has it?

Silicone RTV will be fine for that purpose, or hot glue.

So after selecting economy delivery the caps came in this morning, I installed them and all appears to be well!

Is it possible to upgrade from a Vestel 17MB97 main board to a 17MB110 Main board?
            by cheeky2
I suppose the real question is whether the existing pinouts from ether a 17IPS71 psu are cross compatible with a 17IPS12 psu? If they are then the exchange of the main boards should have no issues providing the screen is compatible with both main boards. Obviously you can change the screen configurations easily enough (providing you have the correct files) for the main board. Why may you ask would I do this? Well a lot of the smart features are no longer working on a Hitachi 48HBT62U main board I wish to give it a new lease of life!
Obviously the same LVDS connector for the screen connection...

Vizio M70-C3 Half picture is bad, main board on its last leg?
            by gavric
Hello, i am working on Vizio M70-C3. It can hardly power on, it takes 15 power button presses or remote. Seems like eeprom problem that I seen before but all reading online says that this tv has power board or main board problem.

When tv powers on vizio V logo shows nice on whole screen. picture 1
When it goes into tv mode it only shows good picture on left side of screen, right is all scrabbled up. pic 2
When i start youtube picture shows on left side fine, right is all scrambled. pic 2

LG 47LB5DF blown power supply board
            by cmlewis89
            Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum. So my trusty 17-year-old LG 47" LCD recently died. As I was booting it up, I heard a hum followed by a loud bang, sounds of pieces flying around, and loss of power to the unit. Inspecting the PSU, I saw two obvious problems: a blown thermistor (bang + flung pieces) and a visibly bulging main cap. Inspecting as many components as I could with my Fluke MM, I diagnosed that the following components on the "hot side" of the board were also bad: one of the 2 main MOSFETs, main 8A fuse, small cap (25V 47uF) connected to main caps, and a blown...

Vizio D50u-D1 Dead: PSU or Main Board?
            by fharris1977
Hi. Anyone who has experience with these vizio sets, which pin on this connector is the standby, the 5V pin? Trying to rule out the PSU before ordering a mainboard. I'm getting 0 Volts on all pins on this connector. Trying to jump the standby and PS ON pins to see if the PSU is functioning. Thanks in advance.
