I picked up a Samsung UN55J6200 that stopped working after a nearby lightning strike yesterday. It's a relatively new tv, so it might be worth digging into but I have a backlog of about half a dozen to work on for friends and neighbors, so I'm trying to decide if I want to mess with this one or not.
-When plugged in, the red standby light comes on, as normal.
-Press power on either the hard key or remote, results in the red standby light going out. About a second later, the backlights flash the screen in one quick burst and go out. Then the red standby light comes back on.
-There is no flash code. Just red light, no red light, backlight flash, and back to red light.
I have a feeling that the problem is a bad backlight, which I have no motivation to tackle.
Has anyone seen this particular behavior because of anything relatively plug n play, i.e. bad caps, definite failure in an individual board, etc.?
If there is a possibility that this will be a reasonably easy fix, I will abide by the forum rules and take detailed pics of all the internals. I'd just like to pre-screen it, if possible, before getting to deep into a repair I don't have the time to tackle.
Thanks in advance.
