    Samsung un46b7100wfxza

Good afternoon, I have a Samsung model un46b7100wfxza 46 inch led TV. It powers on but after roughly 20 seconds of being on red lines Form on the left side of the screen going vertical.

I have cleaned the contacts on the T-Con board with isopropyl alcohol and a pencil eraser. It significantly reduced the amount of lines that were showing. But they are still present after the aforementioned 20 seconds.

I am curious to know if there are any solutions for fixing this type of problem besides replacing the T-Con board. In the end I will most likely have to replace it but I wanted to seek out options before throwing money at it. I also wanted to know if replacing the T-Con board would be the right/best solution.

What happen if you try cooling the T-CON board?

Cooling it how, like with a with a small fan while the TV is on? I hope that does not sound dumb...

The TV does the same thing with the back on and off, for what it is worth. I have left the TV off for long periods of time between testing it, as I have not found a solution to this problem yet.

Try small fan blowing on T-CON board, you can also use canned air duster upside down for cooling.

Ok, more lines have become visible now after removing the back panel and testing the TV while on with a fan on.

As soon as I turned the fan off the lines changed a little.

unplug one of the tcon to panel cables (power is off)... does this change anything when the set is turned on and feed a good signal in? Do the same test with other cable... any difference in the response?

Yes, I had seen a thread similar to this for a Toshiba but the poster seemed to have fixed his problem by cleaning some ground contacts. Not sure how that would apply here.

I have not tried to reflow the board yet like these guys attempted to but they were having similar issues. This is the third and last video of the series on this particular television unfortunately. I'm not sure if they ever came to a conclusion.

not asking you to clean anything.... the test is for isolating parts of the panel and boards..... no problem if you dont want to try stuff.

I think my editing omitted a section that I had typed. Basically, the two pictures are me following your instructions and the results of removing the ribbon cables one at a time. I think I uploaded the right one first and then the left one.

are you feeding any signal into this set? Your flash is making it very hard to "understand" your pictures.... can get rid of that by taking the picture at a slight angle so that the flash "bounce" is not back towards the camara / phone. Potentially, the tcon may look suspicious BUT you might need to check the edge boards at the bottom of the panel looking / testing some of the smd capacitors and such.

No signal being fed, I can hook something up, and I will remove the flash. I was wondering about those boards. I'm not sure how to safely get to them. Pictures on their way.

Of course, the other thing is that you have been concentrating somewhat on the tcon connections.... but on most sets, the tcon to panel cables have "unclampable" cables at the edge boards at the bottom... they might also need some cleaning or reseating.

Still further, you haven't really provided any history of the tv to give the forum some more context of the problem.... it might help elimination or point things in a direction.

With a standard set of bunny ears connected.

Previously I was on HDMI one.

These are all the boards that are inside this TV, first is the T-CON, then the power supply, and then the main board.

I had recently fixed a TV with the help of this forum. (Words will never be able to express my gratitude). And a relative of mine asked me to look at their television after my recent success. (Could have never done it without all the help I received!) My family member told me, "It's got these weird lines on it wanna try to fix it?" And now I am investigating the possible cause/causes.

Might have you a bad panel there, could try throwing a tcon at it if you can get one for cheap, if reseating and cleaning connections as stated doesn't work.

OK thanks for the info. The "history" is a little "thin". Needed more along the lines of "was working, turned it off and then next day turned it on and got these lines... etc" OR... "they thought the screen needed a bit of cleaning, so after cleaning, next day the screen had lots of lines, etc". Anyways, my guess is "cleaning liquid found its way into the bottom of the panel"... :-( You need to check the bottom edge boards to look at contamination in and around the various components and tabs attached to the panel.

O, well they did not really give me much to go on there, they just told me the symptoms. I will try to ask. I can try to remove the screws around the screen to get to the edge boards of which you are referring to. I wonder if there is a source for the smaller boards.

Hmm, there's like a 20-30$ used one on eBay That I was looking at. I just hope a used one does not have the same problems. I am going to assess the boards around the edge of the T.V. next and then decide on the TCON.

These are the bands that connect to the two boards that stretch down the length of the television. They connect to the TCON via two thin ribbon cables. My relative told me, "I turned it on a while back and the lines started to appear when the TV got warmed up."
