    RCA remote control not working

I was given an RCA RLDED5098 , a couple of LED`s had failed.I replaced them and the set works fine. However--i wasnt given the remote control for it---i have tried ten different RCA remotes and two new universal remotes with no luck.
How can i know for sure it is the IR receiver that isnt working?

Turn off the television. Plug speakers or a set of headphones into the television set and turn on the TV again. With the TV on, remove the headphones or speakers since this will reset the IR receiver. On many televisions, the IR receiver is automatically turned off when there are headphones plugged in. If that works you can probably skip the rest.

Clean the IR receiver using a lint-free cloth damp with distilled alcohol. Alternatively, you can use specialized screen wipes used for cleaning flat-screen monitors. The IR receiver will be located somewhere on the front of the TV set. If you can't find it, refer to the instructions. You should find a diagram explaining where everything is located.

Turn off and unplug the television and remove the grill or front-panel from the front of the TV. Carefully remove the IR receiver from the television. It should be plugged into a port in the main circuit board of the TV. If it is soldered into the circuit board, do not try to remove it. Using the cloth and distilled alcohol, gently clean the connections between the IR receiver and the TV. Plug it back in and put back the front panel of the TV.

look at the IR receiver with an oscilloscope while pressing a button on a remote control. I am guessing that you just don't have the right code for the TV. There are tons of threads with RCA's not working with these el cheepo universal remotes.

If the universal remote has a code discovery mode, try using that to see if you get a response from the tv, Its possible the only thing RCA is the name tag

Can we at least see the pictures of the IR board?

i had another rca so i took the IR receiver from there and soldered it onto my tv, set two universal remotes to code search and neither one shut off the tv.it was only 9 dollars for the remote for that exact TV so ill wait for it to show up. I dont have an oscilliscope

Usually the IR sensor on the IR board go bad, pretty easy to replace, check you tube there's a lot of videos on it.

You can see if the IR receiver has activity or not by using DC V meter to check the signal out put of the IR receiver, it should fluctuate when ANY remote controller is sending the IR beam to the IR receiver.
