Panasonic TC-60PS34 Dead As The Proverbial Doornail...

Got in a really nice, clean Panny TC60PS34... Normally, the bigger plasmas I just pass on, but this is too nice not to at least make an effort..

There is no visible power and the power button felt... "squishy"...

So, I took a look.. Looks like the power button has seen better days.. So, I get my hopes up and try to turn on with a remote..

No such luck...

Turns out that when I say "dead" I mean really dead.. No power clicks, no relay clicks no nothing when plugged in..

Fuses all check out..

I am always confused about Panny's designations on the board, so I am hoping someone can walk me thru checking voltages on the Sustain boards..

Check this blue capacitor highlighted in my pictuure on the main power supply. Is it blown open. Look close.

The IC underneath the heat sink near that capacitor is known to short circuit blowing this capacitor. If it is blown I would either take that aluminum sync off and look at the IC and replace it along with the capacitor. I never remembered the specs on the capacitor as I didn't write it down at the time I repaired one. This controls the PFC circuit.

You may also find a power supply on the Internet relatively inexpensive. The sub supply is most likely fine just the main bigger supply is the one you wanna replace

He basically saw the same capacitor(c404) burned up as Freak mentioned. And he does check the IC under the heatsink mentioned above and finds it shorted. Also, a diode should be checked (see video) with that IC removed.

Yep.. According to the video, that cap had an obvious burn out.. This one looks clean..

Gonna pull the board and look at the underside..

Just as soon as we get out of the 30s Fahrenheit temp wise...

Do in ohms test and check across that C404 for a short. That light blue spot from that cap looks suspicious. I have seen these short but not show symptoms on the outside when they blew open before.

OK, forgive me if this is way off base.. I am a rank amateur when it comes to weilding a volt meter..

There is no direct short across the CAP C404...

When I use the probes as pictured, I get a reading of 17.4 MU that slowly counts down...

Check between here and here on ohms test. If it's shorted or reading 0 or making the meter beep, the IC is bad.

This area is under C404 and the IC under the heat sync pin 3

I can order a replacement board for around 50 bucks.. But I hate to pack it up and then unpack it when the board comes in...

Plus it would be nice to have it out for the weekend..

OK looks like that IC is apparantly good. I would check voltage across the main on the power supply to see if you're idle at 170 V DC around there.

Also I'm pretty sure you checked all fuses?

Yep.. All fuses are good.. One sec for the voltage checks..

Also I'm pretty sure you checked all fuses?

Pin 6 on the Main Board Connector had 5.07V.. All the rest were either 0v or mV range...

Looks like pin6 is standby. Is there a legend on the power supply? Try pulling P34 and or the connector below it. Maybe thus will bypass PS-on.

We need to get readings on the main caps of the power supply to see if HOT side is in standby. Like I said before there should be about a 170 V DC across the main capacitor legs on the power supply in standby

Nope.. No legend I can find...

Have to be a little more explicit. I usually don't get into the nitty gritty of this kind of stuff.. Usually just replace the board..
