Re: Sony KD-55X9005C - Unknown Backlight LEDs

mmartell, I replaced the LED strip that had the failed three LED chips on (they were all on same board) - straight swap. As explained previously, this didn't resolve the original fault, but it did change the symptoms - no picture (at all) but SMART light on t.v. was flashing alternate white - green. So I was hopeful then that I was on the right track. The only reference to green lights (that I could find) seemed to be software based. I suspected a problem then with the main control/logic board (the A/V panel) and as I had sourced one during the course of exploring the possible causes of my original fault (as identified by official repair manual) - a swap here as well resulted in fully operative t.v. - The LED component issue is not yet resolved - I am trying to obtain more chips & will update (might take a while!!!)

I used a full panel (72 LED's on board) to replace the faulty board on mine - removed and replaced the thin (felt?) strip that is located full width above the three LED boards (light isolator or what?) ensuring that the thin heat transfer strip behind the panels was firmly against each of the (216 LED's) and the aluminium panel.
After re-assembly (no screws left over!!!) I stood the T.V up and switched on....white light....green light....green light.....(repeat...) no screen activity - switched it off tried again (repeat last symptoms...) - green light appears to indicate a software error, so, having a spare A/V (main) board - swapped them over and.....white light - swirling coloured orbs (holds breath...) then "Android" appeared.
Mounted T.V back on its stand, re-connected all the outputs (HDMI and optical audio), switched on - T.V powered up, back in shop display mode (with the SMART indicator light flashing blue, so after 2 software updates, first for the 200+ apps - no problem, and a second update (after trying to activate my Netflix account) - both updates were 30 minutes. All appears good after about 12 hours of operation.
Max kudos to anyone contributing here.
Questions remain though on the lack of support from manufacturer.
In relation to the faulty A/V (main) board - there MAY have been a slight misalignment problem on the connection ribbon to T-con board) I only noticed it during the change to spare board - Didn't want risk disturbing the repair to check!!!
Again brilliant forum populated by good people - now that I've time, I'll see is I can contribute anywhere with my limited knowledge.
Did you try to reapply the firmware on your original Mainboard?

Agreed. some of these Sony's need to have firmware applied if any changes are made or if you had run the main board with the tcon disconnected at any time. Format a USB Flash drive to fat 32 and download firmware and unzip to flash drive-in an unzipped format so you can see the .bin file(s). Put Flash drive-in USB port of TV in turn on. Just wait the green Amber flashing will turn a white flashing. Give it about a 1/2 hour. TV will restart itself when it's done. Just be patient
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Regarding the firmware - very likely this will be the case (I was keen to get the television working quickly and didn't pursue investigating the re-application via USB as you have stated. As I had purchased a good second hand board - this was the quickest check....
For anyone reading this - here's the final say from Sony (received today!)

About replacing individual LEDS on BL strips
              by edugimeno
              Hi There!
Having fixed 5-6 TV sets by replacing full LED strips, and having watched other people fix that by replacing just one LED in the strip, my question now is what should I consider before doing so.

At this time I have some old strips removed from TV's with all but one LED working. Are there different voltage/current LED on different strips? Are 99% of them just the same and interchangeable?

How do you find which specific model is needed for each strip? When I check if a LED is OK by attaching the multimeter leads to the individual led pads on the strips I...

Corsair K70 LUX RGB dying LEDs
              by Pipolups
              Hi there !

I'm having an issue for several weeks with my quite old K70 LUX RGB keyboard. I haven't used it for few months, and once I setup up again my desktop computer, I got several dead LEDs on that keyboard. I tried the Corsair troubleshooting thing (disabling options in iCUE, ...) but nothing changed so I conclude that for some reason some LEDs went in retirement...😅
Decision taken to change these LEDs as I have access to desoldering iron and binocular magnifier, I wrote a ticket to tech support, hopping to obtain the LEDs reference and... They refused to tell me 🙄...

how can i test individual leds without tester
              by nubinator
Hello I have TCL 65S4 and it has no backlight, seems common problem on this tv to have bad LED's. I have no tester though I thought I could just test each LED with 2xAA batteries for 3v but it doesnt light up at all?
I saw a vid with LED tester on this TV and it had 130v for 1 good line which is 24 LEDs does that mean it needs around 5.5v per LED?
