Grundig 48 VLE 5429 BP TV no backlight

    Hi,

Got an old TV from a friend. Works fine otherwise, turns on and the picture is there, except that the backlight doesn't turn on, not even for a second. Checked the output for the LEDs and got zero volts, so I would think the lights are fine but just not getting power. So, any idea where the problem might be?

The power board is Delta DPS-120AP-2 and main board TC-4 GDTC E131175 if that helps. Pics included.

There's an FQPF16N25C MOSFET there besides the LED connector. Is it used to dim the backlight and could it be the problem? Or that the mainboard doesn't tell the power supply to turn the lights on? There's a BL_ON/OFF pin which seems to be for that.

Also, I found this video where this guy wires the output straight to the transformer. Not the exact same model as mine but seems to be close. Doesn't seem like a very good idea to me. What do you think? Even if it works wouldn't it disable any backlight brightness adjustment?

    Thank you!

What do you get on the BL-ON pin when the TV is OFF and when the TV is ON?
What DC Voltages do you get between the two legs of C700, C720 when the TV is first turn on? You will have p leave the probes in place when you turn on the TV.
We also need the straight shot pictures of the whole top and bottom side of this Power supply/LED driver board.

      BL_ON - tv off 0v
      BL_ON - tv on 2.56v Should be 3.3v?

Do you mean I would have to instantly measure the caps after I turn on the TV because these are taken about a minute later?
      C700 155v
      C720 154.6v
Markings on the PCB say LED driver output for the 48" model is 186V. 155V seems quite a bit lower than that.

Included more pics with and without flash from both sides.

The solution is simple, these displays are known for the defective led stips. Check the display inside and you find in most cases more than one led / led strip defective.

You will have to leave the meter probes on the two legs of the cap, using clips or what you have, then turn the TV on to see how high the Voltage goes up to before it setlles down to 155V.

You might be right. I'll check them next. I measured the LED output again when turning the TV on and it jumps to about 100v for a split second. If there's a broken LED will the power supply turn the LED output off because of not being able to supply current?

Alright. Got the same 155v on C700, but about 234v on C720 for a second.

That is the key! you open circuit in the LED connection some where, more likely open LED/s, that is why the Voltage jumps up that high due to no load so the protection circuit kicks in and drops the Voltage back down.

Hi, I have a Grundig tv 48 VLE 6420 with the same problems as yours. I wanted to know if changing the LED strips fixed everything. Thank you.

this tv is throwing me for a loop. do samsung tvs no longer have the backlight self test feature built into the power supply?
i tested the backlight with my LED tester and it lights up both strips. one of them reads 100v and the other reads 63.7v.
unplugged mainboard from power supply but left backlight plugged in, and then plugged psu wall power in. expected to see backlights light up but see nothing.
according to how ive diagnosed in the past, this would almost always be a bad power supply. replacement power supply was cheap like 20$ from ebay. but still i get not even...

Grundig 55 GUT 8768_55 (chassis gf) Black Screen, powers on and shows backlight
                      by classypenguin
Hello, I bought a Grundig 55 gut 8768_55 (chassis gf) as a defect ‘black screen.

Now I have started with the basics:

Fuse intact, LED Tester says 123V, BL Cap has 140V, Mainboard to PSU 12V, 24V, 3.3V and 5.2V are avail+able, 12V and 3.3V at TCON (TV has no seperate Tcon)

As soon as I switch on the TV, it shows backlight, but a small grey line which disappears again.
When I tap Menu, the background light becomes brighter. What can I assume is wrong with the TV?
A defective mainboard? Or a software problem?

I would be glad of help....

Guide me through repairing a Dell p2210f LCD ccfl backlight monitor
                      by DanPoka
I bought this p2210f dell monitor to fix. Schematic is the same as p2210.
Behaviour is that monitors comes on but then backlight switches off almost instantly. If I look with flashlight I can still find the "No signal message". So definitely a backlight issue. Trying to advance the issue I proved that the protection circuit is switching off the backlight by shorting out C3 and resistor to disable the INL chip then re enable by removing the short.
This is where it gets interesting. When I disassembled the monitor to solder leads on c3 capacitor I noticed the backlight flickered...

Am trying to figure out this backlight issue with this A1990 Macbook Pro.

                      Tests performed:

There is no backlight even with a good screen.
Backlight IC is receiving the correct support voltages.
                      Fuse F8400 ok
                      Current sense resistor R8400 ok
Backlight IC is receiving 3.3V on enable pin.
Backlight IC receiving voltage from PPBUS_G3H, aprox 12.5V.
Backlight IC receiving 5V from PP5V_G3S
Backlight IC BKLT_SCL and BKLT_SDA both measure 0.545V diode mode to ground

iPad Pro 12.9 5th Gen Backlight Issue
                      by cheebster
Hello, got an iPad Pro A2378 12.9 5th gen with no backlight. Got another test unit without screen, tested the screen, still no backlight with the test unit.
Figured out the backlight on the screen was bad, ordred a new backlight from mobilesentrix, *carefully replaced it* without damaging the lcd, oh well.
Final result, issue is still there, the screen has no back lights. So i'm back to square one, with 3 hours less and 100$ out, issue still on the screen.
The panel is still ok, i can see the apple in the middle of the screen when it kicks in, just no backlight.
                      Anyone...
