    Re: Sony KDL-46Z4100 bad T-Con?

"1) I got a 2nd bad T-con board off eBay (sounds crazy, but with my other Sony TV I ended up getting THREE bad T-con boards before I finally got a good one and everything worked), or ..."
This was my exact experience with a Sony 46XBR6. Four T-Cons were tried and returned, one sold and refunded, finally one worked.

On every T-Con I received, I checked all seven surface-mount fuses front and rear.
I also checked for 12V supply from Main Board to the T-Con fuse next to the LVDS connector. I had to have my main board reworked because its 12V fuse was blown by a T-Con fault twice.
The vertical band seen in the photo above may be caused by a tab bond fault. Check Youtube for some panel workarounds, then consider your readiness to attempt disassembly to the degree necessary.

        Re: Sony KDL-46Z4100 bad T-Con?

Follow up on this. I am convinced that the panel is bad. I was recently working on fixing a computer monitor and accidentally ripped off one of the side tab bonds and the screen did exactly what this Sony panel is doing. I am guessing one of the tab bonds is bad (or something in one of the side tabs is bad) and pressing on it just isn't doing the trick.

I'm going to scrap the TV for parts. Thanks for all the feedback/help! --Dave

you make your diagnosis only watching the screens, not any measurement! Are you a tech or an observer? Not good giving up like this...

I'm a hobbyist, not a tech. And I make my decisions based on my observations, based on reading threads of others' experiences with the same TV, and based on the expert opinions of others on badcaps.

I do take measurements, but at some point the effort outweighs the potential value. And I don't have the time, the skill, or the tools to do microsoldering, so my ability to troubleshoot is a bit limited.

I do appreciate everyone's help and input though, and I have saved several TVs thanks to badcaps forum that would otherwise have ended up in the scrap heap!

Sony 8K XBR-75Z8H White Screen Vertical Bars Tcon Code. Help Needed🙏
              by Daren87
              Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the...

Sony XBR-65X750D Horizontal lines bottom of screen
              by ggil44
Hi, I have a Sony XBR-65X750D that has horizontal lines at the bottom 6 inches of the screen. These lines appear to be every other line because the picture is still quite visible behind those lines. The lines appear all the time with a few other lines above and below the 6 inch level blinking on and off at about 2 second intervals. I'm not sure if this is a panel issue or power supply/main board problem. I did replace the T-Con board without any change in the problem. Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Sony KD-55XG9505 lines on screen problem
              by Chrissygizmo
              Hello again everyone,

This is my latest mission, to try getting this Sony tv back to normal working order…

I've only just got it today, when you power it up everything is as should be, in fact it works perfectly for a few minutes then the screen starts getting horizontal lines on & eventually the full screen goes back, I will upload photos of the problem & also some photos of the board etc. You might notice that I'm busy trying the tape method, I'm not sure exactly where the clock lines are so I'm just guessing & hoping for the best lol . I've already tried...

Sony XBR-85X950G Gray horizontal lines and vertical picture shift diagnosis?
              by noisykid
5.5 year old 85 inch Sony Bravia X950G started showing gray horizontal lines across the bottom of the screen and the picture shifts slightly vertically when it happens. The lines sometimes get bigger/smaller vertically and bounce back. See the video for the problem. It seems to be happening after it warms up after an hour or so. Happens regardless of source. Right now there's nothing but power cable connected and it's happening. We did hook up a new Nintendo Switch to our HDMI switching receiver today, and played for a while with no issues, but this problem didn't occur til a few hours later while...

              Sony KD-55X9000F TCON Issue
              by thelankanguy
The TV shows a black screen with no image.
TCON ribbon connectors were disconnected individually for image and there was no half image even.
Later both ribbons were disconnected and TCON voltages were tested.
12V, 3.3V, 1.8V were seen present but VONE signal reads 0V.
There is also a short to ground in this circled inductor.
Is this a TCON issue or something else ?...
