    Pioneer pdp 6020fd no standby

    Hello,

Just picked up a Pioneer pdp 6020fd that was told did not power on. Upon getting it home and plugging it in there is no standby light. Looking through the back cover there is a red led on a board that turns on when the power button is pressed and then goes out after about 5 seconds or so. No blinking. I have not removed the back cover yet. Also I do not have the remote for it. The person i got it from said they had it looked at and was told it was a power supply issue. Any ideas where I should start first? I am think possible capacitors on the power supply? Now if there was blinking congress from the standby light I would think maybe an Ic chip on the power supply perhaps?

    Thank you

Not capacitors on the power supply - I would be very surprised if it was, it's a Pioneer, so built with quality parts.

More likely than not a problem with the PSU, worth checking for standby voltages. The service manuals usually have flowcharts in them as well.

I have downloaded a copy of the service manual. I will take the back off and take a look and report back with my findings. Hopefully it is something simple, there are not too many repair threads floating around for the set (a good thing) for me to get an idea of the problem. I saw another post and it looks like it was the y driver board.

      Thank you

Tv is working. Didn't even have to take the back cover off.

I was in the process of removing the screws and saw the main power switch button. Pushed it in. Plugged tv in heard the start up click and had standby light. Turned it on and have been watching it for over an hour now. One thing I noticed is none of the fans are running. There are four fans at the top. Do these spin only when it gets hot enough?

        Thank you

Fans do not run unless panel temperature hits 55C or so. So you're good.

Nice fix!! Great TV, treasure it well, they do not make anything close to the performance of one of these sets.

So far so good. It's funny too because he had an estimate of $450 to repair it.

I need to get an original remote control for it. The universal I have does not allow me to access the settings menu.

            Thank you

Does anyone know if a remote from a different model pioneer plasma will work with this set? Another thing would be possibly using a harmony remote. I had one for my other tv but it broke so I was wondering if I should just order another one and program it to the pioneer also. I just need one to access the settings menu.

Most Pioneer plasma remotes should drive these sets. I recall the PDP-LX5090 remote (9th gen like your set) also drives 42" 7th gen sets, so there is clearly some cross compatibility there. A Harmony remote should work as well.
