Bad capacitors, dry solder joints, broken led controller, burned led in backlight stripes.
I`ve listed few possible issues that can cause problems you`ve got .

Wow. you think this is simple repair and you do this with screwdriver? The answer is no.
This is PSU or backlight leds are gone, if you don`t know what are you doing than take tv to nearest tv service

I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

Unxtres, this is a forum to help people, and incidentally I have been in the tv business since the days of crt, so if you have nothing constructive to say,,,Go Away and take your toddlers mentality with you. Hello Dskall, when you first power the tv up I can see the menu with a torch, the screen is still flashing every two seconds, then shuts down and red led blinks steadily every 4 seconds. I have read it might be the led's,,be nice to check if it's a board though

Norman1 sorry if you take my answer as an attack, but if you are in business, than you need to know that multimeter is your friend, you have provided nothing about your tv... only serial number. So you expect that i`ll find psu, main model etc in google?

You need to provide few more info some photos, etc. check voltages

Good evening unxtres I will admit I have been out of the loop for a few years while I concentrated on the aerial install side of things, but I'm getting back into it again now. But I'm not sure what voltages should be on what pins, il get a few pics up.

Here is a similar thread https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...ight=TX-L42B6B found by searching the model number. It's a good chance there is one or more bad led's in the panel.
That thread has a link to the manual, check the voltages on the LD board (LD1) plug, then check the voltages on (LD3)

Thanks R.J, il check a few voltages tomorow. This is the second potential led problem in a week. It's very annoying.

Have you got a led tester. They are cheap enough and is a useful tool to have available.
                      As an example:-

Willing to help but I'm no expert.

This TV uses a LN series LG panel.

The LN series are famed for bad LEDs
