Have a Vizio m550sv that was victim of a power surge. Tv worked but did not display any picture through any HDMI ports. Found HDMI ic chip to be very hot to touch. Replaced the IC and have HDMI 1,2,4 working great but 3 displays no signal. I've reflowed the chip numerous times to no avail. Traced the hdmi port to the chip for shorts all is good. Can the board trace internals be fried and not visibly show it on outside?

Re: Vizio m550sv dead hdmi port
The only real way to be sure is to use an oscilloscope to trace the signal. If there are components before the hdmi chip then one of them could be at fault. It could be the HDMI switcher IC, again if there is one in circuit or it could be that the actual video processor has a blown input.Willing to help but I'm no expert.

LG LCD TV picture comes on intermittenly using hdmi port. The sound is on permantly. The hdmi ports looks fine and soldered in securely. The 3.4v coming to the main board is not present(not sure if will affect the hdmi port or where that voltage goes.)The hdmi cable is fine because it works on another tv.The ceramic caps connected to the hdmi controller ic is reading 39 ohms.Could the hdmi controller ic be faulty(feels very warm to touch). The RCA jacks work normally .Thank you in advance for your assistance..

by GjacksonHi, ill try to keep this short. I got my hands on a PS4 with a mangled HDMI port and assumed that it would be an easy fix. before the replacement it booted up fine (white light) however after replacing the port it booted up fine for 2 times and then after plugging in an HDMI cable and turning on the console to check whether it had video out it never booted again, even after unplugging the cable. now it gets stuck on the blue flashing light and after 25-40 seconds it pops out the disk (if one is inserted) and shuts itself off. Upon investigating i found that the capacitors near the HDMI port are...

I'm a little green when it comes to consoles. I've done a fair amount of hdmi port replacement but not really any diagnostics. I've got a PS5 here which powers up but has no video output. I've also tried to boot to safe mode, also with no video. The hdmi port does not look damaged.
Where do I go from here? Thanks!
**UPDATE** I take that back. The external part of the port looks fine, but look at the pins to the mobo. Those pads are ripped off. How does this happen when the feet of the port are still sturdily soldered to the board?
**UPDATE 2** The pads were... -

by SuperAmanI did an hdmi port repair for a PS5 and I lost the small diode z71 SOD923 on the back of the port. I did a trace repair for pin 19 of the port as well. Without the diode I get no display at all. I tried replacing the diode twice but after I get flux on it the marking comes off so I can't tell if I have it on the right orientation. When I measure I get a reading of 1(open) and 923 in diode mode. Is 923 a normal reading for these and also which side should the reading be with regards to the arrow on the board?...
