    Vizio M60-C3: dead PSU

    Folks,

I have this Vizio M60-C3 with the PSU not showing any secondary voltages whatsoever. The main bridge rectifier shows 160v DC between M10 and M11 pins. No voltages on any pin of CN201, CN301 and CN202.

I tested ~90% of semiconductors on the board (everything that was easily testable with a multimeter w/o desoldering the component).

    1. MOSFET Q1 (K8A65D) was shorted between all 3 pins. Replaced it with a TK8A65D(STA4QM)-ND from Digi-Key.
    2. Zener ZD5 was blown (yes, physically blown). It was a Vishay MMSZ5250, 20v, in SOT123, J5 4. Replaced it with a through hole 20v Zener from my stash.

Nothing else seems out of order, yet the board is still completely dead. Both the Q1 and the ZD5 replacements survived the power-on, so the problem must lie downstream from them and was most likely cased by the shorted Q1.

Does anyone have any idea where to look? Pix attached.

P.S. Is there a Boolean search on the forum? No matter what I do the search reveals the results in the form Vizio OR M60-C3 which is rather useless.

    Re: Vizio M60-C3: dead PSU

If all legs on Q1 were shorted, then I would check all the components of the gate drive circuit of the FET and the PWM that switches it. Also make sure the PWM gets Vcc. Other than that it will play dead too.

What Zener Diodes on a Linear Power Supply
      by caspian
      Dear members,

I have a linear variable power supply with unknown brand name that I used for voltage injection.
Then it failed. I discovered that its transistors (Q1 and Q2) are shorted.
In addition, I discovered that its zener diodes are defective.
I can replace the burned transistors.
But I do not know the model of the zener diodes. the model number is not marked on the zener diodes.
Therefore, I cannot replace the zener diodes.
I do not want to test the zener diodes in a test circuit to discover their model or value.
      no schematics are available...

      Vizio E65-F0 really dead
      by Iain P
      Hi everybody!

I've got a Vizio E65-F0 smart tv that is good and dead. It shows no signs of life when I press the power button on the back. The power LED in the lower right corner doesn't light, there is no backlight and no picture.

So I took the back off and started poking around figuring one or more of the caps had dried out. My esr meter says all the caps on the power supply board and the mainboard are less than 1 ohm.

I decided to check the voltages coming off the power supply they are as follows:

      connector CN201
      pin 1 (18vsb1)...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
      by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

      Assuming...

      Dead Vizio D40u-D1
      by catnapped
Recently had my bedroom Vizio D40u-D1 apparently die while it wasn't being used. Noticed the power LED flashing, figuring maybe a software upgrade, but attempting to turn it on proved that wasn't the case. When powered on, the power LED will flash a bunch of times after about 2 minutes then turn off again. Definitely is no picture even with a flashlight on the screen. Had the opportunity to open it up over the weekend. Doesn't apper to be anything out of the ordinary visibly inside, nor any odd smells of escaped magic smoke. Readings from the connector in the corner of the power supply board...

Vizio D50u-D1 Dead: PSU or Main Board?
      by fharris1977
Hi. Anyone who has experience with these vizio sets, which pin on this connector is the standby, the 5V pin? Trying to rule out the PSU before ordering a mainboard. I'm getting 0 Volts on all pins on this connector. Trying to jump the standby and PS ON pins to see if the PSU is functioning. Thanks in advance.
