a few samsungs i have read you can install a new blank eeprom ic and it writes the contents back to the ic im not sure it thats true though.

Hi,
I have shorted the pins 5 (SDA) and 6 (SCL). done this with power on and stb but no luck.

Today I received the main board, installed it and its up and running.
After all it was the main board.
So everyone with similar behavior of the mainboard as described, try a Eeprom reset or change the main board.

I am very glad.
Of course in the mean wile I bought a 55inch led lcd so the 40inch Samsung goes to the bedroom.

The total cost of the parts are 58 Euro for the main board including shipping and about 9 Euro for the replaced caps on the power supply.

I want to thank everybody for their help.

exactly what you done? The reset have to be like so: power cord unplugged, short on sda-scl, insert power cord in wall socket, wait 2-3 sec., remove the short, switch on to see the results. As said by others, also soldering a new eeprom is good.

Hi,
What I meant is, there are 2 states when plugging in the power cord.
1: When you unplug the powercord and the tv was in a standby state, the next time you plug in the cord the set goes into standby.
2: When you unplug the powercord and the tv was in a “on” state, the next time you plug in the power cord the set goes into a “on” state.
I tried both states with the short but it didn’t help.
When there is a corrupt eeprom, is it stil possible to have these 2 states?
What are the symptoms when there is a corrupt eeprom on the mainboard?

You don't explain very well, is important that the short begins without current, also with empty capacitors, thus waiting a minute after unplugging,

found this on shopjimmy web site what issues they say a replacement eeprom ic may solve

IMPORTANT:
These main boards can have multiple failures, in addition to the EEPROM.
If EEPROM replacement does not repair your board, there are likely additional problems.

Symptoms EEPROM replacement MAY fix:
- On screen display is stuck on logo screen
- TV won’t power on with remote or buttons (LED indicator remains same color)
- TV won’t turn on after being off for 30+ minutes
- TV shuts off by itself during channel scan or when switching inputs
- TV turns on and is stuck in color test pattern mode forever
- TV turns on but there is no backlight (LED indicator shows TV is on but there is no image)

but i also guess it may cause other issues too as this is a spare mainboard now i would buy a blank eeprom ic and fit it as there really cheap so worth the risk in my opinion and if works ok you have a spare mainboard.

Hi,
I understand the procedure but I still don't know in what state the set must be in?
Because the main board remembers the last state it was in, it goes to that state when plugging in the power cord.
So when it was in standby, I unplug it, short the eeprom and plug it in. The set goes to the standby state.
When it was in the “on” state, , I unplug it, short the eeprom and plug it in. The set goes to the "on" state. (fan starts direct"
So there can be 2 states.
Please tell me what state do you prefer?
Plugging in the power cord and it goes directly to the “on” state or to the standby state.

On or stanby doesn't matter.. i have tried too with a similar mainb. and no effect, so tha type of eeprom doesn't support the reset method i tell..

IC5004 is that the same location id as the eeprom on your board

The eeprom I tried was IC3107 ATMLH 842 2EB 1 256K.
Didn't find IC5004 on my board.

I did find other eeproms with low mem.
IC3101 2K
IC3102 2K
IC3103 2K
IC3104 2K
IC3106 2K
IC3112 2K
IC7004 S 24C S0??

Pre programmed is unuseful i think... since you have a new mainboard, try the method told by other, short VCC - SDA pins, i saw the datasheet, you don't damage it..

as theres a few 8 leg ics on this mainboard its finding the right one to reset as you have said is it the ic7004?

Just a quickie test.

Turn it on via the switches and pull the power. Then see what happens if you disconnect the IR and switch cable and power it back up. I've had some odd things happen with A650 boards with faulty touch switch processor boards.

I tried IC7004 and IC3107 but nothing worked for me.
Thats wy I installed a new mainboard. Maybe there is a other problem with my board.

The main thing is the set is repaired and the old board may come in handy for parts etc so alls good.

Joop, the right eeprom, i say the second time, is the one 256kbit, but you've tried what i say in post #32? maybe this can help some others..

IC3107 ATMLH 842 2EB 1 this is a 256K eeprom
I tried all the combinations of resseting the eeprom but it didn't work for me.
