Along with identifying the jumper, I need to know precisely what else to do in setting it up for running test patterns. Thanks!

Here are new (hopefully better) pics of the main board and another pic for posterity. Actually, the third picture was something that an octogenarian customer showed me in his home and I had to share. What a difference 100 years makes!

You have 4 holes on the mainboard close to the wire with 18 written on it. Jump holes 3 and 4.

out of interest whats the resistance between SVC_OUTL and SVC_OUTH test points on the buffers?

Thank you, Hamie! The resistance between those test points on the upper buffer is .9M and drops to .5M and repeats and on the lower buffer it is .7M, drops to .5M and repeats. This was done while they are in circuit with TV off, of course.

I jumped pins 3 and 4 on the main board and tried it, but still same symptom: VS and VA come all the way up, but immediately drop and the screen never comes on, audio is heard if you move the joystick for changing volume (it makes that clicking tone through speakers). Do I need to disconnect something from the main board first or anything?

Re: Samsung PN60F5500, making me question my sanity

You should be able to run test patterns without the wire that connects the power supply to the mainboard.

          Jump the power supply on.

          Ps-on to Gnd & vs-on to 5vstby.

Note: do not unplug the wire thar connects the X-main to the mainboard only the one that connects the power supply to the mainboard.

Let me confirm: use jumpers in the cable end holes of the cable that goes from the main board to the power supply after I disconnect it from the main board, but it should still be connected to the power supply, correct?

i think you also have to remove the lvds cable from the main board? but let hamie confirm

Only the mainboard end of power supply cable requires to be disconnected.

Thank you. I watched and tested VSC on YSUS, it goes to -208 and drops all the way down and the VE is located on the YSUS on this TV and it goes to 108 and then drops down. So basically all the panel voltages in this TV are generated and then just drop.

As far as the test pattern setup: I still don't know exactly how to do it on a TV that has the logic and main combined.

                      Can anyone confirm?

Sorry, didn't refresh page from last week and see your post. I will try it now.

Well, this plug is confusing. Can someone help me identify the correct pins? The problem is the legend doesn't have a numbering system as they often do (and even other plugs on this board do). Here is a picture:

                            What's so confusing about it?
Pin 1 is ps-on, pin 2 is standby?

So PS on jump to the pin below it.

And stby to the pin diagonally to the bottom.

Thank you for explaining it. Okay, So I jumped it in that way and also jumped pins 3 and 4 of the test pins on the main board and plugged in the TV, still no picture, no test pattern. I tested the VS, VA VE and VSC and they all stay up now, though.

Did I do this correctly or....?

Strange one. I'll give you that.

Has the panel got a glow to it now the voltages are up?

My thoughts would be that the control portion of the mainboard as failed in someway.

You could try applying some pressure to the BGA chips closest to the jumpers and see if test patterns kick in.

Although pure guess work I'm afraid, I'll leave it open to someone who has actually worked on this model, as I have not.

To generate test patterns do as Hamie suggested and also remove lvds cable.

Re: Samsung PN60F5500, making me question my sanity

my 51" is a similar design to this being an F6500. On mine, I found 4 mosfets as dead shorts on the x/y sustain board. some call it just the Y sustain, but it's labeled X/Y on it I think and on many sites. I'd probe some of the FETs on it for shorts. I just got mine today and will see if it resolves the issue.

I too tried manually jumping the connections (and did get voltage, both VS and VA) but the control board still showed a fault (long blink). I think if the control board doesn't power on nicely with 1 second blinks, you won't get the image.

What is your control board LED doing?
