    Board compatibility PS50A456P2DXXU ??

I have a main board here from a Samsung PS50A456P2DXXU which I recently stripped as the screen had a number of stuck lines, identical physical layout to
Samsung PS42A456P2D main board I was wondering if it would be compatible, I have the remote for the board as well.

    Model

    number 450_normal_idTV
    Pcb number BN41 00980A

Do both number match up on the main boards BN41- AND BN94- ?

This is one of those situations where it will look the same but potentially firmware or stored eeprom data will be the difference. I've converted a Panasonic board from one model to another simply by either copying the data from the old board or swapping over the eeproms or flash chips.

I think what you've quoted is the blank PCB part number as a search also reveals LCD models had the same PCB but the actual version part number will be something else probably a sticker like BN94-01668N.

here's a few examples one is a LCD board from the US

I have a failed main board for PS42A456P2D which I am looking to replace, the board itself does not start up correctly, and I have a fully functional board from a PS50A456P2DXXU. I will put the pics up below. I am not entirely sure what is wrong witht the PS42A456P2D board only it fails to start up correctly. Could need bga reflowing could be something else. I would not be ably to copy the firmware from it, how would I go about installing the firmware / eeprom data for it onto the replacement board.

        thanks in advance

Are you sure its the main board at fault ?
have you done any voltage tests VA/VS/VSC(there is a sticker on your panel this should match up with your voltages ) etc etc ?

I have a confirmed good set of test patterns with no lines and or artefacts to indicate otherwise from this set with the lvds disconnected and the logic board jumper-ed for self panel test. The relevant voltages appear within spec as per the panel there is no Samsung chime or logo generated when the set starts up.

That's the bit I can't answer for you as I've only touched the panasonic boards.

You can work out what's what with the schematics and parts listing.

You can see one of the stickers clearly states either 42 or 50 and both showing different main flash versions.

Firstly I'd identify all the chip locations and if you don't know what eeproms or flash ics look like that's going to make it hard.

Maybe get what schematics you can but I'm looking at a ps42a456p2dxxh service manual in my collection and found these so far.

I don't know what they do or which you'd need to change. I'd expect the HDMI or PC input ones would not need changing.

The part numbers are for blank chips but should have a marking with the numbers.

If I was doing this I'd have a strip of card and any IC I removed I would tape it down and annotate location and board off. One card for each mainboard otherwise it will get mixed up for sure with no way of knowing what goes where.

I'm not going to try and coach this one, but theorectically it should be possible.

maybe one of the other UK guys has a better or more diverse knowledge with this one.

Can't be sure this is all of them either.

              ic5004 AT24C256BN (EEPROM 256K)
              ic5003 MX25L1605AM2I (16MX1 FLASH 2.7V PROM)
              ic7004 S-24CS08AFJ (EEPROM 8KBIT 400KHZ)

These were on the HDMI cct
              IC3007 AT24C02N (EEPROM 2KBIT 400KHZ )
              IC3006 AT24C02N (EEPROM 2KBIT 400KHZ )
              IC3005 AT24C02N (EEPROM 2KBIT 400KHZ )

              PC input Dsub
              IC3008 AT24C02N (EEPROM 2KBIT 400KHZ )

I have a good working knowledge of what eeproms and or flash ics look like, or if not sure I can look this up, I don't have a good starting point with regards to the original board (PS42A456P2D) in that all I can confirm is the board is not working. May be corrupted eeprom or flash ic maybe the bga has failed. I might end up swapping over faulty parts and end up with two dead boards.

true, comes down to risk and benefit. I had no choice but I did a lot of research and convinced myself it was possible and had good documents which helps.
In hindsight swapped more than I had to and discovered a corrupted flash data triggered 1 blink error code.

It would fire the tV up with an image I'd expect.

If you have a fully working board for the 50" model it should work in the 42" however you'd need to enter the service menu and change the screen size and panel type.

So I can simply fit this board from the PS50A456P2DXXU into the PS42A456P2D, call up service menu and select the panel details, screen size 42inch and panel type which would be plasma ? any other details needed and will this work without damaging anything.

MUTE, 1,8,2 and then power for service menu for Samsung if I recall correctly

                      thanking you in advance

I was lucky to obtain a matching board for the PS42A456P2D out of a scrap set that came in, very nice picture now on this one.
