VIZIO M470NV picture started flashing on and off then stayed off

I was given this tv and was told it just did not work...plugged it in and it came right to life...after watching it for a few hours even wondered what could be wrong with it...it worked fine and had a great picutre...It ended up working for about 10 days then about 2 weeks ago sunday while watching football (of course) the picture (not backlights just the actual picture) started flashing on and off but the audio remained on. it did this about 10 or so times then when it would go off it stayed off for longer. so i took it apart and looked and was suprised how complex the t con was. i got online and found it was called a daugher board by shop jimmy so i went to ebay and ordered one with the same part number 3647-0022-0147 when it came in the new board had a part number of 3647-0022-0147 (4c) and pcb 0171-2272-0022. My board has same part number 3647-0022-0147 (2a) and pcb0171-2372-0024. Got to love ebay between being not clearly labled with whole part number and one really crappy picutre i ended up with wrong aprt...but i still installed it the tv turned on and got no startup screen then it flashed the backlights on and off a few times about 3 or so then it popped up with no input (was still bench testing it) so i caried it to the cable box and plugged hdmi in and when it turned on it flashed backlights a few times again and then the screen came on and was still flashing like it had been before...i forgot to mention in my haste to catch the end of 4th quarter of a close gaome when this problem first came up i also tried to push on the outside edges of the screen to see if this changed the display and it had absolutly no affect on its lack of picture or when it was flickering on.

1 although i do need to do some voltage tests im assuming this is a mainboard issue and really dont have a whole lot of kowledge on dealing with them besides replacing the part as a uinit.

2 could this be an EPROM issue they do sell them for the tv as i had looked the mainboards are really expensive and ebay only has a repair service that has a board trade in listed for this board havent really googled much further

To properly verify what happens, you have to make sure that all your voltages are good on the PSU. Then verify that the Tcon gets power (even when it cuts out), check that the panel gets power and check the LVDS signal with an oscilloscope (turn menu on / off all the time so you see a difference on the scope).

Or take a shortcut and throw boards at it. Sometimes SJ has a complete board swap kit available for $80. It really depends on how far you are willing to go.

This is typical of a bad main board for this model TV. We have seen this tv and this model many times in the past. Unfortunately since this tv is a bit older, almost all suppliers are out of stock on the main board unless you are willing to pay 300 for a refurbished one.
