I got this for free last night. Not sure if it is a bad panel, tcon or mainboard.

to me its T-CON issue or ribbon cable specially if this effect keeps at same place of the picture

i know the 46" kdl are notorious for tab failure.

i have 5 or 6 laying around, all bad panels.

I have the tv, just haven't opened it up. I had a feeling it was tab issues, that's why I didn't bother.
So I didn't see the panel was made by Samsung. I thought you just made a mistake in typing it.

To me it doesn't matter the manufacturer. Those tab bonds do fail, or someone cleaned the screen and the water ran down. I revived an old Sanyo TV like this before. After 2.5 years, another tab bond (on the other side) failed same way. So we gutted it and chucked the rest as the TV was 10 years old with 25000 hrs on it and replaced it with something newer.
