    Mitsubishi LT-46151 Half screen ghosting

This is for information only at this time. The TV is no longer acting up. Sorry I didn't take enough picture during testing.

I received this tv for repair. The local repair shop claimed it was a bad panel and a quote of $1900 was given. The right half of the screen was discolored and having ghosting problems. Since it was half the screen I was thinking t-con or tab bonding. I started by removing the back of the tv and checking cable connections. I was unable to produce any changes with any cables. Tapping on or trying to flex the body of the tv did not result in any changes either. I tried freeze spray on the t-con through the cover with out change. There is a large cover over the t-con which prevented adjustment of the ribbons to the panel. I removed the large cover with no change. I had to disconnect the 4 ribbons to the t-con to remove the second cover because I did not want to remove the tape connecting the cover to the frame. After hooking the cables back up with the board connected to the back by 2 screws the tv proceeded to continue acting up. I unhooked one cable at a time moving from the side of the tv acting up. First ribbon produced colored vertical lines. Two "sections" did change/move the colored lines. Hooked up the first ribbon and unhooking the second produced a half black screen. The "good" side of the screen did not change on either attempt. I hooked the second ribbon back up and removed the middle ribbon which corresponded to the good side. This blacked out the good side but also produced a good picture on the "bad" side. I hooked that ribbon back up and the tv went back to the right half ghosting again. I finally removed the outside ribbon to the good side and the tv produced solid color lines on the good side. The "bad" side produced a good picture. I hooked the ribbon back up and the tv worked fine for a couple hours. I put the tv back together checking as I went to make sure it still had a good display. To put the tv back together I had to remove and reseat the 4 ribbons again. Upon completion the tv had a good display. The following afternoon, about 15 hours later, it acted up again. This time I checked it as I removed pieces. The tv acted up until I removed the large cover that hooked the back supports, power and main together. Once that was removed the tv started working fine again-WITHOUT touching the t-con or cables. After one day of it working fine I put it back together without installing the top screw for the cover plate. Two more days the TV is still working fine.

Look at "Mitsubishi LT-46149. Ghosting and darness on right side. Vert and horz lines." for walk through and better pictures.

No that wasn't mine but good help.

I found another post on this site the other day which has been very helpful in troubleshooting this issue I am having with my tv. The left half of the screen is dark, and the other half is VERY slow to generate it's image - and it only generates part of its image at that.
Based on this yt video, I have narrowed it down to an issue (short?) on the left side of the display, somewhere in the system of ribbon cables.
when I remove the bezel and the rear cover, I can get the image to display correctly by manipulating the ribbon cables on the left side which connects the left lower display...

      Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

      Hi There,
When this set developed this fault a member of the family passed it on to me,while they bought a newer set.
On power up via the separate 19v SMPSU, a dark screen, backlights and sound OK.
On removing the rear cover later, I checked the TCON board and ordered a replacement just in case. The replacement board made no difference.Prior to replacing the TCON board,I cleaned all 3 ribbon cables with iso prop alcohol.
Disconnecting one of the two LCD ribbons going to the LCD/Gate driver boards, managed to get half a working RHS screen with half the SONY logo "NY"...

TD Systems K50DLG12US half black and half white screen
      by Raulnn
good night! I have this screen that looks half black and half white. the tcon gives a low vgh value (5-6v). the rest seem fine. I first removed the flex from one half of the panel and then the other. Removing the left, vgh increases it to 25-26v. I think the problem is in that area, but there are not many elements on the integrated controller board. there are no shorted capacitors. could they be a cof? Some help?

By the way, now the entire screen is black. Maybe some flex was not connected correctly... I have exchanged the flex and there are no variations, I don't think they are the...

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)
      by Tr0ll
Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

      Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

      First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...
