Fixed my first LG 50" LED TV (LED Repair)

Fault was sound, no picture. Problem was 1 defective LED on the R1 strip. I found LED replacements from Aliexpress. I replaced the LED and got the tv working again. Sold it for a nice amount to.

Just wanted to say thanks to MrReeceyburger for inspiring me to do the repair, after watching his many awesome videos on YouTube regarding LED repair.

Thanks to everyone on this board for all the help. You guys are awesome.

                Link to aliexpress please?

Were there no alternatives at digikey or mouser? My last few orders from aliexpress have taken almost 60 days to arrive or not at all.

I understand saving money by getting free shipping from aliexpress, but if you are repairing things for customers, doesn't getting them from a reputable distributor like digikey and/or mouser make more sense? You can always charge the customer another $10 to cover the cost.

I couldn't find them on mouser or digikey. It took about 10 days to get the parts from China.

For 30 LEDS, He wants $20US and $10 for shipping. The parts I got from China were same price but I got 500.

Great to know if you need them in a hurry though, thanks.

Samsung UN55NU7300F Curved TV. Half side backlight out. Fixed by just removing the rear snap cover
                        by howardc64
TV was fixed just after removing Samsung's rear snap cover.

This curved TV's construction is rather interesting. When the snapped on back is removed, rest of the TV will relax the curvature. Top of LCD panel is loose as it wants to straighten out against the slightly curved bezel. Snapped back provide most of the curvature shape. So just simple disassembly of rear cover will allow the rest of the TV frame to relax its curvature. Thats probably what fixed it but no idea which connection. 4x LEDs are edge lit.

Maybe PSU->backlight connector didn't have a good contact?...

                        Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

                        Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

TV runs, backlight on, have sound and no image (dark grey/blue/black LCD)

Disconnected right (looking from rear of TV) tcon-buffer board cable, LCD left half displays.
No shorts on right buffer board.
Started masking tcon-buffer board signals... (connection #1 in main board pic) about 20+ pins from top of connector... LCD fully displays with some anomalies.
Gradually reduced # of masking signals... eventually down to 1. Removed that... LCD works perfectly.
No obvious damage on right buffer board 3x COF to the panel like another 43" LG fixed ( link ) with...

Cheap Aliexpress Capacitor: Much smaller than original. Safe to use?
                        by nobbnobb1
I am trying to get a set of Creative T40 computer speakers to work again of which I believe the problem is bad caps (470uF @ 35V). So I get a generic set off Aliexpress. The brands are meaningless, but if anyone cares it's a "Chongx"

When they arrive, to my surprise it's much smaller than the originals. These are 8mm x 15mm whereas the OE is 10mm x 20mm. Unfortunately my meter does not test capacitance but I'm guessing there's no way this meets spec at 80% the size.

Thoughts? Is it still worthwhile or safe to try and install these to see if...
