Sony EX-2N chassis flash problem, Sony bulletin 12TV026.

I’d like to talk about a very specific failure affecting Sony Bravia LCD TV with chassis EX-2N. This is the model list:

    KDL-37S5500
    KDL-40S5500
    KDL-37P5500
    KDL-40P5500
    KDL-32S5600
    KDL-37S5600
    KDL-40S5600
    KDL-32P5600
    KDL-37P5600
    KDL-40P5600
    KDL-32P3600
    KDL-37P3600
    KDL-40P3600

The symptom is clear: plug the TV, it goes to green LED, nothing happens on screen, and after about 30-35 seconds, a relay double-clicks and the cycle starts again, forever.

This problem occurrence peaked on 2012, and it was supposed to happen due to firmware bug triggered by a specific DVBt emission. After that year, almost no more cases (in my Spain area). In recent years, I’ve encountered a few cases, perhaps related to Flash corruption for similar or other reasons.

Good news are that if your TV is one of listed above and it shows described symtom, it has good chances of being repaired without even opening the TV, by just applying steps described in Sony bulletin 12TV026. Bad news are that you’ll need Sony TL3 proprietary jig, which is not available for sale. Then, there’s no other choice than replace NAND Flash with one properly programmed for required model (IC4701).

After applying 12TV026 bulletin, a firmware upgrade to 5.167 is required. And that’s all!

I’m the lucky owner of a TL3 and I’m able to fix these, as long as they have no other problems or flash wear problem.

I’ve attached original 12TV026 bulletin describing the recovery process. I also attach a terminal log file of a KDL-40S5600 affected by this issue, before recovering. The log is taken through TL3 jig and terminal software. I don’t attach boot files because they’re more than 150MB.

What’s the point of this thread? Perhaps to unify in a single topic all flash problems related to listed models. Perhaps someone can offer pre-programmed Flash ICs for these models. Or an open alternative to TL3 jig? It doesn’t look very complex to me, a FTDI 232-to-USB IC, 4 switches and a few more small ICs.

So to be clear, this problem is just for the listed 2009 Sony Bravia model's released in Europe?

Yes, just those models. I don’t know geographic details.

can you explain me how to make the alternative to TL3?

I didn't say I know how to do it. I just said that TL3 doesn't look very complex. In your case, if you just need to repair one unit, it'll be cheaper if you find someone that sells a pre-loaded flash IC for this model. You'll need good soldering skills to replace a TSOP-48 IC.

I found a KDL-37P3600 that has image problems (the screen looks pixelated). Could this also be fixed by software? A YouTuber shows that by entering the maintenance menu you could switch to a different image source, but I think it will need a new TCON.

                          HI guys

I got here a Sony 65X950G - I tried to find any repairs guides for this model but not many online

                          here is the issue
I have Sony and android logo. but then 4 led red flash lights front of the tv

I have 3.3v ref. 12v reg then T con 12v when I press the power on button
but then I get black screen and 4 red flash light at the front LED
but I get 3 led flash on the LED driver board.

I check that few X900F or C YouTube repairs, seems that if you have 4 led red flash it could be due of LED black light error
                          so I tried...

                          by Chrissygizmo
                          Hello again everyone,

This is my latest mission, to try getting this Sony tv back to normal working order…

I've only just got it today, when you power it up everything is as should be, in fact it works perfectly for a few minutes then the screen starts getting horizontal lines on & eventually the full screen goes back, I will upload photos of the problem & also some photos of the board etc. You might notice that I'm busy trying the tape method, I'm not sure exactly where the clock lines are so I'm just guessing & hoping for the best lol . I've already tried...

Sony HCD-HX80R Amplifier Volume Control Problem
                          by crackedprint
I have a strange fault on a Sony amplifier. The volume control varies the display from MIN, then 1 up to 30 and then MAX as expected. At MIN there is no sound. However, at 1 it is quite loud and increasing above 1 does not change the sound level.

I have tried a Cold Reset as per the service manual.

I have looked at the I2C clock and data to volume control chip IC501 (BD3499FV). Data is only sent to IC501 when the volume is set to MIN or 1. At any other setting no data is sent to IC501.

I have looked all the way through the service manual and tried many online...

Sony RB2G Chassis KDL-55W815B MAIN BOARD 2 Blink Error issue resolved! Happy days :)
                          by cheeky2
For anyone interested just repaired this Sony Main board TV that had a 2 blink error code, the chassis is a RB2G which is common to quite a few different Sony models. The Ceramic 10uF 25V X7R 1206 capacitor C9114 was shorted which took the smd 2A 0603 fuse out F9101. This was powering the Buck converter TPS54332 which caused no 5V output from it.
See the attached picture of the locations of both components. I also attach the best service manual I found for this board for anyone else in a similar position of trying to repair this main board. It's not specific to the TV model however it gives...
