Another Panasonic TH-50PZ80U Plasma with no picture no sound no blinking error

I am working on a TH-50PZ80U (01/2009 build date).

I receive this in its current state. It is not mine. I was told after a bad thunder and lightening storm it would not display a picture but you could here the relays click. I was also told that there was a cable box plugged into it and that was also toast after the storm. I assume that lightening is the culprit.

When I plug it in I can hear the click of the relay. Then I can either push the power button on the remote or the TV and the red power light will come on and you can see a slight glow to the screen. When I hold the power button the tv will then turn off and then turn back on again by itself.

After much reading on here. I pulled the back cover off and did not see any obvious bulging caps or burnt marks.

Other than this mark in the upper left corner.

When I pull the LVDS cable on the A board I get an all white screen.

I thought this would indicate a bad A board. (TNPH0721ALS) So I ordered one from ebay and installed it. I confirmed that I had the AL version of the board. Same problem still exists. Do I need to activate the new board?

I have green LED's lit on both the SS and SC board. All fans run when power in on. I have 189.8volts DC going to both.

Any thoughts on what I am missing or where to start next?

The display does not illuminate. I did try to enter the service menu and no luck.

I will try to get another A Board and report back. Unless someone on here has any other suggestions?

I wanted to give an update. The first A board I purchased from Ebay was DOA. Which of course you don't find out until its installed. The 2nd board was GTG!

Yes I was. Any of the boards that I purchase from Ebay I make sure the buyers accept returns, even if I have to pay for return shipping.


Has anyone successfully repaired an A board at the component level from here? I see there are services out there but I was just wondering if anyone on here has.

Probably needs a reflow of the cpu etc.
