This is ridiculous! I can't find the board for order on any site! It's always sold out or some equivalent that I'm not sure I trust. There's some on e-bay for around 80$! That's insane!!! Not really sure what to do. Has anyone ever tried one of those alternative ones? The ones that were made for another TV but modded to work with a different type TV?

Here's a link to some of the alternative styles. What do you guys think? Worth a shot or no? Style A there doesn't seem to be as long. Style B seems to be more of a direct fit...not sure the holes match up though, but 27$ is a lot better. I can get a used original on that site it shows for 40$ or something like that....that's a lot for a used version...

I read your post ReeceyBurger123 on this inverter. Is it a good idea for me to attempt to repair it? From what I understand, this is a common problem with this actual inverter because of a poor design. Did I misunderstand your thread? If not, wouldn't replacing the faulty components just guarantee that after around the same amount of time that this TV has been on for (however many hours the owner had used it since they bought it), it'd just fail again, in a similar way?

Because Tom66 tells us about the dirty little secret in that thread, wouldn't it be best for me to use one of the alternative styles I linked to? 27$ USD plus shipping (I'm guessing) for an alternative style...

It comes with all those little SMD 8-pin ICs, I think they're MOSFETs. That big 28-pin IC and two replacement fuses.

It'd look like it might not be crazy hard to fix, just a bit time consuming. I think those 8-pin ICs are large enough where I wouldn't need a stencil or anything for the solder paste. I could just lightly brush it on or maybe even just use my micros soldering iron that was designed for SMD rework....the 28 pin one would be a pain to hand solder but again, I think that'd be doable. Might be better just purchasing a stencil for that.

What do you guys thinik? 14$ repair kit or 27$ replacement inverter (with shipping, 44$)?

I don't know what ShopJimmy charges for shipping. The shipping from the other place is a bit expensive. The good thing about the other place though, the inverter wasn't made for this TV. It was just modded to work (or it just works), which mean, it shouldn't have the same issues I'd think...

Yeah deffo worth it, should make it more reliable also be sure to resolder all the smd parts as they have a habit of becoming lose and causing issues.

The customer made the decision to not go for the rebuild kit. I've ordered the replacement style B alternative. It came to around 44$. I left it up to them and gave them what I thought were valid pros and cons for both products. I'll let you guys know if replacing the inverter fixes everything or if there's more problems once it comes in the mail.

Okay, today came the new inverter and it's got a little issues. It's physically smaller and doesn't bolt up at all. In fact, the board is actually smaller in length so where the screws normally go, I can actually see them next to the board, they're not under there. It's fairly secure inside the backlight connector though. They didn't make the add-on PCB quite right. So the tab connectors don't line up right with the backlight connector. I had to bend the board just a smidgen to get it to fit. Here's an issue though, the four pin connector that goes from the T-CON to the inverter on the other board, it doesn't have any connections on this one!!!

The 4-pin connector on the other inverter says: SYNC, NC, NC, GND for the pin-out. Finding a GND wouldn't be hard. But what the heck is sync used for? I didn't hook it up and tried the TV. It seems to work now. I didn't hook a video source to it, but I got the backlight on with the HDMI source listed. So, should I try to cut the 4-pin wire and solder one of the wires to GND and find where SYNC is supposed to go and solder the other wire to something on this new inverter or just leave it like it is and maybe tape the new inverter onto the TV or something?

I was searching around and figured out what that 4-pin cable is from reading a post by Tom66. I'm quoting what he says from another thread here:

That cable is probably the sync cable for keeping the inverter synchronised with the t-con, it blanks the backlight when the t-con is updating the screen which creates the illusion of a faster screen update. It should be plugged in though it may work without it...

So the question is what to do with it because the new inverter is from a physically different television and doesn't include the hookup for this 4-pin cable. Is there some place on the new inverter where I could solder the new wire too? Here's some numbers I can read on the new inverter. Maybe one is the model number? I dunno:

RDENC261 (white box) 0 (inside the white box) (back to green) TPZ (another white box) Z (inside the white box)

I googled the numbers and I think it's a Philips backlight inverter...it might also be called a:

I meant to say I did try the new inverter and it seems to work. Just curious if I should try finding a place t solder the SYNC wire to something on the new inverter. Tom66, you seem to know a bit about this SYNC stuff. Would you have any ideas? Thanks!
