Sony kdl46ex723 Read Only Service Menu

    Hi All,
I had a mainboard (BATV) fail for a second time now (every 2 years as if it's on a timer) on our kdl46ex723 tv and this time I got a 1-883-753-22 A1814571B board from ebay and replaced it successfully, tv is working now.

It came from a 40 inch kdl40ex720 TV and after firmware flash sony_tvupdate_2011_4027_aaa_auth.zip it started working fine on my 46in tv. WiFi and 3D are both working but when I go to the service menu the model is still displayed (IN RED) as kdl40ex720 and when I change it to kdl46ex723 it becomes green but I am not able to save the changes via pressing MUTE and then ENTER (the round button) it appears as if the settings are read only and it would not allow me to save the changes.

Question: Does anyone know why MUTE and Enter would not commit the changes and how to bypass the read only settings?
And is there any harm or downside to have the board operate as a kdl40ex720 on a 46in model (Panel: LTY460HJ05-A01) ?

    Thanks,

    -A

first you need to start with yours original serial No to registered it at the NVM, then the model. also can use J-TAG via terminal to write all on NVM,

you are now safe dont worry

            Hi There,

Thanks for your answer, I am still not able to change the serial number.
I get to the menu and then sub menu:
            S/N
            *1 30XXXXXX

But not able to enter new values... Is there a trick how to update the S/N?

Also I wanted to ask if there is a sony manual available for service menu as all these settings and the UI itself are not very user friendly...

            Cheers,

            -A

Do you happen to have the jtag pinout / levels etc for that?
Is there anything that can edit / interpret the dump?

              Thanks,

I doubt this will help but it might be worth a look?

                  Good stuff!
It is a fantastic manual, exactly what I was looking for!
New board is married to the rest of the tv now (except serial # which I don't care at this point since I will never call sony again )

To write is MUTE and "0"

                  Thanks!
