Hi folks! My first topic here. I picked up a nice Samsung sp-p4251 Plasma EDTV a while back. I hooked in the Nintendo and here's what happens:
5 blinking rings on the standby light ring/power button. I can hear the game, but there is no picture. The screen is not illuminated (no glow). Other than that, it seems hopeful. It doesn't turn itself off or anything like that.
I already opened it up, saw one bulging cap and ordered a $4 bag of new ones. Many weeks later, it arrived (today). I stuck it right in. No joy..
At this point, I'm about to order the complete repair kit (contains all necessary caps/fuses etc) for $20... or if I'm lazy.. an already repaired power board ($65 on ebay right now). Just want your opinion on the following before I do that:
1 - Does this TV have a power feature that turns off the screen and keeps the sound on? I know some plasmas do that, maybe this one too? If so, how the heck would you get the screen back on?
2 - If the power supply is actually good and it were actually the x/y boards, would I at least get a lit screen, but just distorted? Just wanna make sure of that..
3 - I don't see any cracks on the screen or physical damage.. but if it were a leaked screen, would there be any other signs to look for besides cracks?
Thanks guys! I'd test each of the caps, but... my work space is a mess (in the middle of moving).
