    Toshiba 40LV664D - No picture

Looking for some advice as to what might be the issue. The unit powers up but I'm not getting any picture at all, not even a faint image. I would have thought it would be the back light inverters but if that was the case surely I'd see something really faint?

Shine a torch on the screen and look carefull. Press menu on and off and look for that.

Can't see anything sadly. Might take it apart and test the inverters.

If ypou look at the rear of the set with the back off can you see the backlights on. Do you have sound?

Slight PITA that it didn't come with a remote, however I managed to plug in a laptop into the HDMI and switch the input over. Can confirm that there is definitely sound. I guess from that we can confirm the video card is working?

This is a shot of the back.

Ahh this set uses the SSI400_14A01 inverter aka junk ! I bet the inverter has some shorted fets on it. Do you have 24v going to the inverter for a start ?

not sure.. I guess I need to get a multi meter onto the left side pins of this connector to verify that?

Yes set the meter to 600v Dc range then black probe onto a metal peice on the chassis or the Gnd pins of the connector then the Red probe to the 24v, if the meter screen shows 24v the Psu is good. If not unplug the inverter connector and check again.

Not used a multimeter that often and sadly the one I have is Analog, however I'm fairly confident that its reading 24v off those pins, so think its good.

Also need to read 24vdc at both ends of the SMD fuses on that inverter board.
You should remove that metal shield to get to the Inverter board.
It is probably similar to this one: Samsung LJ97-02098x.

                        Looks identical!

The SMD fuses I'm guessing the two small blocks next to the power connector? one of them reads 24 from both side, the other doesn't. I'm guessing one is blown then?

Edit: in that photo, just off to the right from the connector.

Yes, one fuse is blown can be due to shorted out power MOSFETs that reece was referring to. The board is only about $25 in the US.

not worth just replacing the fuse or you suspect it'll simply blow again?

You can try new fuse but more likely it will blow.

                                    Right check this out:

                                    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...=Ssi_400_14a01

To fix the board you need to do the following:

Replace every one of the power fets that drive the transformers not just the failed ones.
Resolder almost every SMD resistor, diode and basically anything smd as broken solder joints can cause the fets to fail again. Talking from experience !
Replace all the lytic caps with very low esr type.
                                    Replace the controller.
                                    Replace the fuse.

Of course if your not confident in soldering then replace the board but it is more reliable to repair it IMO. I had one that I replaced that is actually featured in the thread linked that came back 6 months after replacing it.

Or if you send the board to me I will fix it for £50 including parts and postage back to you. Also I can spot these boards from a mile off I have fixed quite a few of these buggers.

Huge design flaw by Samsung here, failure to cool them fets and that they dont put enough off so the load is almost doubled on them so they get hot. Not to mention the issue with broken solder joints that these have as well as the failing controller for them.
