Samsung PS58C7000 plasma TV service manual?

Yesterday my Samsung PS58C7000 plasma TV made a loud bang and the picture went blank (completely black screen). All other functions appear Ok. I have audio and can switch channels. This forum had some discussions about this specific model. I first thought that the loud bag was an exploding tantalum cap, but there wasn't the characteristic smell. When I pulled the back off the TV I couldn't see any obvious damage. Unfortunately I couldn't find a service manual for the TV.

I got DoubleDratt88's "fast track guide", but it hasn't got enough detail to debug this problem. I can see the correct Va and Vs voltages briefly after power on, but then the power supply appears to shut down and the voltages quickly decay.

Does anyone have a copy of the service manual for the Samsung PS58C7000 plasma TV?

Thanks for any help or advice.

    Cheers

    What about these voltages?

If Vsc is low or missing and Vs was OK, the failure is with the Y-Board
since the Y-Board generate the Vsc voltage from the Vs supplied by the
    SMPS.
If Ve is low or missing and Vs is OK, the failure is with the X-Board since the Ve is generated by the X-Board from the Vs supplied by the SMPS. Please note in some rare cases the Ve may be generated by the Y-Board feed to the X-Board.

Might just have to do it the hard way and probe around looking for shorted transistors on y or x boards, or even blown buffer ICs on the buffer boards.

can't find a manual but generally they're not very good anyway.

You could also try searching PN58C550 or C590 or C7000 as they are the same panel.

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...n58c550&page=3

that thread talks of same symptoms, blown upper buffer, burnt resistor etc, loud pop.

Re: Samsung PS58C7000 plasma TV service manual?

After some more tests I determined that the lower "Y Buffer" is causing the Vs and Va signals to drop low after power up. When I disconnect the lower "Y Buffer" then I get a good picture in the top half of the screen.

I suspect that it is not viable to repair the "Y Buffer" board. So replacement is the only option. There is a small chance that the board has died as a result of a short in the panel.

Here are the details for the board:

      Model: 58"US2_YB_LOW
      PCB No: LJ41-08418A
      Rev No: R1.2 (10/03/17)
      PBA No: LJ92-01717A/B/C/D

Any ideas about the cost of a replacement board and where to buy one in Australia? Is it advisable to replace the upper "Y Buffer" at the same time.

      Thanks
      Tom

If there's a white sticker see if it has 717A or 717B. There's 2 versions from what I can find but both should work.

        https://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsea.../?q=lj92-01717

I think if you go looking here, new at least you may pass out at the price over $300 which makes even getting the Shopjimmy board with the shipping a good deal.

Or Ebay, I've used Payless Components, generally ok, I have had the odd bad board but they look after it.

          Hi Tw2005,

Thanks for your replies. I am going to order the part from shopjimmy. The shipping is more expensive than the part. There is not much available in OZ, or if it is then it is at a crazy price. I wonder if I should visit the local rubbish tip. There is a good chance that there are a few broken Samsung plasma TVs there with these parts.

          Cheers

you'd be lucky I would think, firstly to find a 58" and then the same series.

Re: Samsung PS58C7000 plasma TV service manual?

No luck at the rubbish tip, but I found the cause of all my trouble. With a bright light and magnifying goggles I discovered that one of the caps on the Y buffer board has blown up. It was covered with some semi-transparent glue, so I did not spot it when I looked over it initially.

Now the million dollar question - what capacitance value and voltage rating is C5566 or C5571 meant to have on a Samsung PS58C7000 plasma TV lower Y buffer (PBA: LJ92-01717B, Rev: R1.2, PCB No: LJ41-08418A)?

Anyone with a schematic of this beast?

              Thanks

Re: Samsung PS58C7000 plasma TV service manual?

I measured one of the nearby caps which are in the same sort of configuration near the panel connectors as the blown up cap. It is 100 nF but I couldn't determine the voltage rating. When I try to check the voltage present at the good ones my digital Fluke multimeter goes crazy. Even an analog multimeter behaves strangely. I suspect it is because of high frequency AC voltage. The caps are next to a 47 ohm resistor and a diode (all surface mount next to each other - in a parallel configuration).

Anyway I have first removed the offending (shorting) cap and I got a reasonable picture. I then soldered on a 100 nF through-hole ceramice cap of unknown voltage rating. When I powered on the TV I got a perfect picture.

As it turns out I didn't have to spend a cent and also didn't have to wait for a few weeks to get replacement parts from the USA. Pretty happy about this.

Thanks to all the people who have posted various bits of info about plasma TV repair. DoubleDratt88's "fast track guide" was very useful. I knew nothing about plasma TVs before this.

                Cheers

                      Hi Tom,

I have this exact issue with this exact model! Do you have pictures or can you give me any tips with how to repair this fault? I'm not particularly electronically minded so any guidance would be appreciated!

                      Cheers,

                          Hi Jamie,

The problem I had was that a capacitor was shorting the power to ground on the Y-Buffer board. This caused the smart power supply to shut down to prevent further damage. DoubleDratt88's "fast track guide" was very useful to get the problem narrowed down to the offending board. There is a chance that you have a similar problem. I posted a photo which shows the replaced capacitor. The original was covered with some semi-transparent glue (possibly from a glue gun) so that it was hard to see that the capacitor had popped. On closer inspection with a bright light and magnifying goggles I discovered the shorting capacitor. After one year the TV is still working perfectly. You wrote that you are "not particularly electronically minded". I am not sure what that means, but please do not kill yourself if you don't have the necessary skills. There are dangerous voltages on this TV which can stop your heart. If you don't know what you are doing please get a professional to fix it.
                          Good luck!

It is now fixed and almost working perfectly thank you for guiding me to this location. I have attached a photo of the affending capacitor and the replacement fix. I have a haze at the top of the screen I think I have seen in the posts somewhere about adjusting the Ve-Vs to increase there values witch should take this away. Fingers crossed. Thanks again. 😁👍. Jamie.

Very many thanks Thunter - I had a no-image PS63C7000, that would show some life when I removed the top buffer board. Based on your post, I inspected the Caps on the upper buffer and noted one had failed on one end - similar to what you described (under the clear silicon). Replaced this with a through-hole 100nF cap and it is back up and running.

                              Happy happy camper....
