Good afternoon, could somebody help with this arcing Tv. This is the second one with the same complaint -- a loud "doof" noise. The first one had arced violently (like a crt Tv with an arcing loptx) whilst taking voltages. I sent it in to the local agent, who returned it saying the Panel was faulty.

This one one comes on with the standby led flashing red, the green led on the control board flashing. Vs is labeled as 209 volts, measures 203 to 205 (fluctuating). Va labeled 56 volts measures 55 volts. Vcc not lableled but fluctuating between 181 & 191 volts. Not sure where to measure Vsc & Ve.

Photo 3 showing sticky liquid having leaked from heat pad? Is this a faulty heat pad, or has it just got too hot? Has this caused the fault

Photos 5 & 6 show conditions set has been operated in vents blocked & salt formation on back cover.

Would it be worthwhile repairing considering the environ its going back to, and its age, and obviously price & availability of the Y & Z sustain boards.

How rugged are plasma panels? Can a moist seaside environ cause premature failure of the plasma panel?

there is a LOT of cracked solder joints on that board,
and you should brush the dust off before looking at it or taking foto's

U5000 doesn't look so good? Pin 7 is arcing to ground.

I repaired one of these Ymains. Normally you will have some shorted transistors which is what blows U5000 you need to check the transistors for S/C.

The size of the discharge/ burn mark made me think that a lot more than the ic was poked, so any work (cleaning & dusting) would be futile? I thought ascertaining repairability before any work continued?

Maybe sometimes the damage looks a lot worse than it is, it was just that the identical set I had before crackled (like my testicals receded crackle) made me think that this particular panel had a history of taking out the board, and that any repair attempt would be futile.

Okay, will start cleaning up and checking other components, and if it looks not to bad will try source ic and attempt repair.

In the mean time Samsung have quoted 1800ZAR for the Zsus & 2215ZAR for the Ysus. I have been told that in the event of pcb replacement to change both boards at a time, or the set will just return.

This would make the repair price ridiculous. Just don't want to waste time repairing, only to have the the panel bang them to pieces again. Thanks responses.
