    Telefunken TLCD-40FHDB dim picture Repaired

Thanks guys, after reading up on your forum, I have now been able to repair this set that i would normally have written off as a faulty panel.

the tv came in with a dim display, there was cockroach faeces along the inside of the cabinet, so i decided to open the panel and have a look. Photo 1 shows the roaches, however i dont know if they caused the problem. Photo 2 shows the lamps burning dimly with the fourth lamp from the top burning purple.

Photo 3 shows the lamps now burning brightly after having replaced the purple lamp with one from a scrapped panel. (you can see the fourth lamp down seems slightly longer.).

It was a bit awkward handling the light defuses/filters between the lcd film and the lamps, but I managed to make a successful repair. Thanks once again.

Someone else had monkeyed around with it before you opened it is my guess. Looks like the set has quit a bit of hours racked up.

Looks like lots of well worn lamps.

It is good to turn down the backlights level too on CCFL.

Agreed, had a 42" Cmo panel a few days ago actually which backlight was on max one burnt out lamp causing a greyish bar on the screen. After replacing it set was fine.

Thanks Budm, CapLeaker & ReeceyBurger. Yes, saw other blackened tips on cfcl's, maybe should have replaced them all one shot.

When you say turn down the backlights do you mean from the user menu, or from the factory settings?? (not all sets have backlight setting in the user menu.)

just set the backlight to 50 or 60%, doesn't matter... most of them TV have it adjustable in the users menu. I've been doing this since ever LCD came out. I never had a backlight fail on any of them yet.

Thanks CapLeaker, sets gone back already, will check this adjustment in future.

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)
                        by Tr0ll
Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

                        Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

                        First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

SAMSUNG UN55KS9000F picture fades then distorts into vertical lines after 20 seconds
                        by JJAAMM
This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

                        Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...

                        Hisense 58R6E3 Backlight/No Picture Repaired
                        by petersor
Quick repair summary for those interested. I had a Hisense 58R6E3 TV that had backlights working but no picture. T-Con had 12V supply but some of the supplies on the board were 0V. Unplugging one of flat cables to the LCD display driver boards brought the supplies back up, so I figured it was a short on the LCD panel driver board. Narrowed the short down to the 15V power supply by checking the coils on the T-Con board to ground with a diode test and confirmed that all the MLCC caps on that rail all showed a short to ground. I injected 5V/1A into the 15V rail on the driver board (T-Con disconnected)...

Samsung TV model UE50TU: rebooting, backlight, sound, but no picture
                        by TR103
                        Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                        - sound and backlight, but no picture
                        - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                        - it keeps rebooting
                        - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                        - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                        - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                        - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

                        by angelos
                        Hi Guys,
Its the second time i have come across this same issue in the last month and having to give back the sets unrepaired does not pay the bills. That said i was asking for a second opinion on this fault.
The image manifests with a lot of lines horizontally at the top and bottom of the display and after a while colors spread all over the screen. A lot like a VGH, VGL, AVDD issue etc.
I am going to explain with photo's what I have seen in separate posts after this one.
