I have this clock radio that had died on me. My wife loves this thing and I guess they don't make it anymore. I would like to see if I can fix it. I have tested the power adapter and it tests normal 9 volts 1 amp. the unit was working and then all of a sudden no more screen nothing. I have opened the unit and have taken pictures of the board.

So the fuse F1 checked OK and had DCV at both ends of the fuse with ref to GND?
BTW, the adapter is 9V AC? DC?Last edited by budm; 03-18-2016, 10:07 PM.Never stop learning

Re: Philips AJL308/37 Alarm Clock Radio LCD Photo Frame
Then you will need to trace out to see how the DC is being distributed after the fuse.
We still need good clear pictures of the whole board, both top and bottom side.
And how many Voltage regulator ICs are there on the board?Never stop learning

Re: Philips AJL308/37 Alarm Clock Radio LCD Photo Frame
So it has one small backlights inverter circuit, but you still get sound from the radio but you just do not see anything on the screen, right? That way we can narrow down to just bad backlights or the whole unit is dead.
It looks like it has lots of switching power supplies on that board.
U22, 23 Linear regulators
U12 is the amplifiers
L2, D2 are part of the buck switching power supply.
U25 power MOSFETs for the inverter transformer.Last edited by budm; 03-19-2016, 11:15 PM.Never stop learning

Re: Philips AJL308/37 Alarm Clock Radio LCD Photo Frame
So do you get any DCV at the linear regulator pins at all?
Do you also get DCV at both end of D3 with ref to GND?
DCV at U12 pins?Never stop learning

With regards to playing music and saying what time it is, the Philips Clock Radio is a strong entertainer. Tragically, it tumbles down as we already discussed an advanced photograph outline of the provided landpageComment

ive got a modern digital clock radio approx 15yrs old
my question is how long can a clock radio or a simple radio last ss farcas operating hours?
since elec components have limited hour lifecspan i would imagine the radio or clock radio would eventually fail.
the reason i ask is because i have my clock radio on radio function 24/7 for the past 7 years and its still working fine....i leave the radio on ..never turn off past 7years...thats approx 60000 hours
it uses very little power just a few watts i would imagine that may have something... -

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....-

by KemerHello, I removed the graphics card from my laptop and I want to heat it in the oven. What I want to ask is, is it okay to heat the card without removing the metal mounting frame on it?
As you can see in the photo, there is a plastic (black) gasket between the metal frame and the card. It sticks the frame tightly to the card.
I previously removed the metal frame while heating it, but it is quite difficult to separate it from the surface it is attached to. If there is no problem, I do not want to remove it.
What worries me right now is the possibility that... -
