                  Re: Vizio E470Vl no backlight problem

                  I know this is an old thread but I'm trying to help out an eBay member with a no backlight issue on this same model. His BL-ON signal is 1.32V and I'm wondering is that's the issue. What is typically enough to activate the backlights? I would think it should be more in the 2.5V - 3V range so I'm thinking he's got a main board problem.

                  Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

                    Re: Vizio E470Vl no backlight problem

                    It was indeed too low of a voltage to activate the backlights. I had the member just jump the PS-ON to the BL-ON pin and snip the wire going to the main board that activates BL-ON. For now, he's watching the TV again with no money spent.

                      Which one goes to main to activate BL/ON?

                        Show us the pictures of your power supply board and a closed up of the connector on the power supply board that goes to the main board.
                        Are you having BL-ON control signal from main board problem?
                        What is the TV not doing?

                          by Bugman1400
                          EDITED: I thought my Vizio E470VL has +5VSB and no 12v on the PS board, but after plugging the cable back in and testing the pins on the Main board I realized that I do have 12V. I assume the 12V is turned on when the ON/OFF switch is pressed. The Vizio light in front does go from Standby Orange to White when ON. But, I still have no picture or sound. Test values of PS board are below.

                          +5VSB= +5.09
                          12V= +12.18
                          PS_ON= +2.25
                          I_ON/OFF= +3.27
                          LAMP= +3.18
                          DIM= +2.97

                          Any more testing I can do on Main board or is it just a replacement?...

                          by Tynan Dill
                          I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

                          Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

                          I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

                          The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

                          With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                          Assuming...

                          No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

                          Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

                          So I have a cheap non working ATX PSU that I was learning to repair a decade ago. At the time, it blew the main fuse, bridger rectifier, NTC, and primary 9A 900V MOSFET. Replaced all except the MOSFET. 5VSB came back online. Then I poked around in it so much, measuring components one by one to a point I accidentally made the 5VSB circuit primary side went bang. Blown the AP8022 (Viper22A) PWM chip, along with a low resistance resistor and the PC817 opto isolator. I replaced them all.

                          In the process of poking around, I also lost a zener diode that stabilize the voltage coming from...
