    LG 47LS4500 problem

    Hey Guys,

This is my first real post here. Im a complete noob when it comes to this stuff so bear with me lol

Yesterday i was playing ps4 when my tv (LG 47LS4500) made a popping noise, the screen flashed and then the tv went blank. I then had a burning smell coming from the TV. I took the back of the tv off and located a burnt cap (C603) on the power supply board. I located a few threads that had similar problems with their LG tv's but none of them really had a fix.

I'd really like to be able to fix this issue instead of having to buy a new tv. So being a noob when it comes to this stuff, is there any way i could fix the cap? Or would i be able to replace the power supply board? (and is that a hard task?)

I attached pictures of my power supply board. If anyone could maybe attach a link to the exact model supply board i'd need that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Do you know how to check for S/C as that cap normally blows if the transistors short ?

Right you will need a DMM aka multimeter do you have one ?

C603 is blown for sure. But there is probably more than that wrong. How good are you with a multimeter? You'll need to meter some points. I would start with D601 and Q601. The caps don't look bulged but that doesn't mean they are not faulty. If you want the quick fix. There is some power supplies on eBay for that model. Search part number EAY62512701

not very knowledgable with a multimeter, i am teachable though haha and is it simple to replace the power supply board?

The PSU is about 5 mins to change. But if you'd like to learn we can teach you just enough to make you dangerous like the rest of us. The caps will not read properly in the board so you would have to remove them to meter them. Depending if anything is shorted you might not get a proper read on diodes or transistors.

are there any video tutorials on the forum that would be able to make the process a little easier for me?

no lol this is probably a little too advanced for me haha i'll probably take a look at it once i have the tv up and working again. I found the board on shop jimmy for about $62 new which is a few dollars cheaper then what i was finding on ebay. Could someone just verify that this is the correct board i need? I really appreciate all the help guys.

That's the one you need. Remember something else might have blown the power supply. But not for sure. With plasma's when the power supply pops a lot of the time the ysus causes it. I'm not too familiar with the LED tv's but from what I see for boards in that tv, this might do the trick. Remember shopjimmy charges shipping but they have a great guarantee. And shopjimmy has a repair kit for the power supply, usually that's a tell tale sign that it's a psu problem.

I doubt it's "new", more than likely salvaged from a damaged panel TV. At least with Shopjimmy, if the board does not fix your TV, you can return it and just be out return shipping and the restocking fee.

Q601, Q602 are the power MOSFETs for the PFC Voltage booster, the blown cap C603 is the Snbber cap for the PFC Diode D607 which you should check to see if it has low resistance reading in both direction, if it is bad you will not have Boosted Voltage, the cap is around 220pF 2KV or higher.
