VES315 With 9324 Hours !

Wow got this 32" Led crap Tv in a few days ago, all working fine owners replaced it with a bigger 50" Polaroid..... Yes another Vestel crap in their 9 year old sons room. This is a JVC LT-32TW51J 32" rebadged Vestel Smart Tv. Normally these fail with under 2000 hours in most others I have repaired. This set uses:

17IPS19-5
17MB95-1
VES315WNDL-01 Led Panel based off a AUO glass
Ves Rev0 94V 11 Led strips (two in panel so 22 Leds in total to light the screen)

This Tv is a piece of junk, but not been previously repaired or serviced, owners kept backlight on low (reduces risk of Leds burning out) and kept Tv on for hours at a time, believe it or not keeping these on for hours reduces the risk of Psu diode failure and mainboard firmware failure. Surprised that the Lcd screen is still good as its a POS normally fails after about 5000 hours (seen two previous Lcd screens in these fail in just over 5000) but wow over 9000 hours with in 2 1/2 years of use thats some serious Tv watching. Still this thing is a POS and will probably fail soon so I replaced the diodes and reloaded the firmware from fresh just incase, but hey just thought I would let you know that these Tvs can actually live over 2000 hours with out having to be repaired

Incidentally, just repaired the exact same model-fried led strip,only 828 hours of use.Oddly, firmware for the 17mb82-2 works fine for the 17mb95-1a one I just did!

A total P.O.S. these are,but customers seem to like crap these days..this version of screen,interestingly,was LG glass....the tab connector strip said LG,but interestingly,made in Turkey?

Hmm strange, Leds do have high failure rates early on in life this one must have been a lucky one. Also what they do is Vestel source the glass and driver board from Lg or who ever then they assemble and bond the glass themselves which saves them money but the rest of the module (Led, Panel and diffusers) are Vestel, they dont have an Lcd production factory so cheaper to source the glass separate.

Also I know what you mean people seem to always comment how good the image quality is and im there thinking like Wtf how can you say that but I just agree as well im getting money for it. If I was an ass I would take them upstairs and show them a proper Tv-my Pioneer kuro 428XD which is a brilliant Tv lol that has 21000 hours on it still working like a champ

Kids were complaining just before christmas about the sharp CRT DS chassis TV we had in the living room which I repaired only once 8 years ago, because X box games would not show full screen, so I bought a replacement from the local tip, a totally unmarked Techwood 32 inch LED , it was flashing led on the front but the psu did not have a faulty diode it was caused by bad firmware, when the set came on and in service mode only 37 hours use !
With virtually no use I can only assume whoever bought this lost there reciept and the supermarket would not take it back.

Crazy isnt it ? Some of these fail with literally no use but some last, it really is a hit or mis with these nasty Vestel junks. Guessing you serviced alot of them then like the rest of us ?

I have , Been in business over 30 years now, I grew up in the 70 s repairing valve TV s , how I love valves, I still make things with valves theses day, valves are pretty much indestructible make a mistake and the just glow cherry red !

I joined this forum a couple of days ago as I can see on here they are guys who write and understand firmware code and I am on a mission to find someone who can help me with vestel code, I believe and am pretty sure that I am right the firmware can be read out of a working TV onto a memory stick for use at a later date, I just need someone to help me with this, but as I am very new to these forums things I am still trying to navigate round the site and find the people who understand high level programming.

Well we have a new winner here for the Ves315WNDA series screen ! JMB 32" with 10239 hours on it, backlight on max caused one bulb to pop but wow 10000 hours on a Ves315 panel and it only just failed, uses AUO glass an usual Ves315 22 Led type 0.2 strips. New record for such a shit Tv !

Down to the bell curve...some will survive.

I'll bet 90% of Vestels will actually get past the first two or three years. This is much lower than other brands, but I've seen plenty of 8-10 year old Vestel sets still chugging along.

They are crap but they don't all die after a couple of years.

Thats true Tom, my nan still have a Hitachi from 2006 based off a 17PW20 Psu still going strong, it gets used at least 6 hours a day since it was new. I offered to open the Tv up and replace some bad parts like caps etc but she said she will wait till it blows, but im expecting it to go anytime.

She does hover the vents regularly and makes sure she switches it standby before pressing the master standby button.

Its as you said I would say 60% of Vestels die with in the first 5-8 years but some do last longer. These Led ones 80% in the first 1-3 years.

Thinking of it I also had a 26" Murphy with a 17PW25-4 which the 5vstby Ic blew up. It had 26500 + hours power on time and 29000 + hours in standby. I swapped the Psu for a recapped 17PW26 32" version and its working great.

Didn't you write for the television mag many moons ago,Michael?,that was a good read,Especially Donald Bullock!
How things have changed,And not for the better.It may surprise some,but vestel have been making TV's since at least the early 1990's!

Well at least some remembers me then !

I did write for Television magazine from 1985 when I opened my first shop right up to the day they went bust , in fact I knew the editor and he told me they were heading for bankruptcy and could not afford to pay me any longer so we did a deal and I accepted free advertizing space in the magazine for a few months before they went bust.

Vestel has been my favorite set for repair since they started in the 1990 s, simply because they used all phillips/mullard components and you could fault find without buying an expensive service manual by just obtaining a datasheet for a chip from Farnell, where as jap makers like sharp we re branding chips with numbers no one had ever heard of such as IX0247 and there was not a hope in hell of getting any data without buying a service manual.

Still in business after 31 years with a 1700 sq feet workshop now but the fame and fortune has all but dissapeared !

I still have all my memories and things to remind me of my excessive spending when money was no object as I could make it so easily , by the way I still have an extensive stock of parts for 1970 s tv S such as the thorn 1500 , 3500 ETC , and still got thousands of valves on the shelf !!!!!1

Got a Celus with Ves390 only 16 months old with 12000 hours ! Leds failed as well as slight fault with Lcd but I fixed both issues:
