Hi! New to this site, and I hope someone can help me by pointing me in the right direction to fix my 50" Plasma, which has given great service for 10 yrs. and a nice unit.
Throughout the years, every now and then, maybe once or twice a year, the red blinking light would come on. It was an easy fix, just unplug for 30 seconds or so, then plug again and it worked perfectly. I blame this to power surges, maybe overheating because of dust, dirt, dog hairs, and lint trapped between the wall and the TV, so I started to clean once a month, but probably some trapped inside the TV.
Since last year, that particular TV has seen less use, and is mostly used by my son for gaming. Some 8 months ago the picture in the screen would start to get garbled from the half of the screen up, other times from the half down. Every time it did that you could fix it by tilting the TV up (wall mounted on up/down tilt bracket) and bringing it back to its position, but if you tilted it down too much, maybe more than -5 to 7 degrees on a +/-10 degrees tilting bracket, the image would start to get somewhat garbled from one of the halves until you brought it back to anywhere between 0 and -5 degrees.
Last week my son turned on the TV, but though the green power light came on, there was no picture, not even a blink. Tried unplugging for a minute or so, to no avail. Also, left it ON for awhile and after a few minutes the TV would turn OFF by itself.
IF THIS HELPS: WHEN YOU TURN THE TV ON, THOUGH FAINT IT MAKES A SOUND THAT MIMICS A JET ENGINE'S HIGH PITCH.
Any ideas as to what might have happened? If caps, which ones to look for? or is it something more serious like a "dead" screen? Though I haven't opened it, my educated guess is that all caps are electrolytics and should be easy to see which ones are blown, if any.
