Re: Sharp Aquos lc-70le857u 70" TV display problem

When u have the set on with the good picture - I then install the last connector very carefully. u can then have the whole set on - should be strobing !! might take u several times to get it right. then u know it can be fixed.

Here are the pictures of the one cable disconnected, when i disconnect the other side by itself I get no difference in my display from my original problem. I am not at all sure what the issue is or how to go forward from here, thanks for any help!

yep that's the "classic tab issue"... the dark side is the side with the bad tab somewhere. Carefully remove the bezel and INSPECT the edge boards and tabs along that side by "carefully" releasing the boards from the frame clips so that you can see both sides of the boards AND the tabs. You will likely see a discolored tab and / or tab driver depending on how bad things are. You might also feel a temp difference on that side with all cables attached as the bad driver(s) will be hotter than other normally operating ones.

Glad you got this far... probably could have got there sooner but the "journey" is always a winding one AND never the same.

would suggest u make up a table with 2x4s to set tv on. top 2x4s are smaller than tv so it holds screen safely. I would not remove entire bezel but just the 3 sides to allow enough of bezel to be lifted up to work on the "bad" side. GOOD LUCK.

True. It seems that this occurrence is becoming more and more common lately. You most likely have a faulty driver. This would require you to remove the tab drivers and boards on that non functioning side of the panel unfortunately.

Here's the video I made as a tutorial. I know it's a Sony in the video but same beast of a panel both manufactured by Sharp.

This should give you an idea of what is involved

Can i replace the drivers or is my only way out of this by pulling the side tab drivers off like in the video? Did you ever get rid of that dark spot on yours after taking your drivers off on that one side?

When i plug the bad cable back in with the tv on, the screen turns off and i get the flashing 2-5 code, when i unplug it and turn tv back off it goes back to the one half good screen. Thoughts?

Well I found the bad driver, looks burned out, pictures below. first picture is of the bad burned one, second picture is of one of the good ones (to show the difference). From what I've read and watched I am to carefully pull all these out from the screen? I want confirmation before I do something irreversible! Thanks everyone!

Well I got antsy and after a lot of reading I was confident I had to peel off the tab drivers so I did and...it worked! I realize it is prone to complete failure once the left side drivers get burnt out/die but for a free tv i can't complain! Thanks everyone for your help in getting me to this point! Let me know if anyone has any questions to help further understand this repeating problem that Sharp is know known for! Thanks!

Yes it slowly went away. Is probably memory resident in the panel from the short it take some time to alleviate but good job on your Repair.

How is everyone's sharp aquos 70 working out ?? Mine is still working very well - small line (about 5 inches) I had on top left side has gone away. This set has turned out to be a very good "find".

hi , so my 8 years old LC70LE857U is acting like your tv
since I am not a T.V guy , do I try to save it?
I just ordered a new 70 inch 4K from LG
the sharp was great , but only 7-8 years
                            never used the 3D

Try powering up one side of the screen at a time by disconnecting each ribbon cable, one at a time and see what you get on display.(always disconnect and reconnect cables with power cord unplugged to avoid any damage)
