    Vizio E420VL Screen Not Working

    Hey Guys!

I decided to create an account here because, from what I have read, everyone seems friendly and knowledgeable. Please have patience with me, because I am electronically inclined, just on the PC side, I have never worked on HD Tv's before. So, here it goes....

I have a Vizio E420VL that the screen has stopped working. I have searched the topic, and have come across some posts, but nothing specific enough to what I am going through.

The TV came from my buddys mom's house. She called me over one day because her TV wasn't working. About 1/8th of the screen on the top (From left to right) was good, but the rest was either frozen, or it would "Bleed to black". What I mean by bleed, is that the image would freeze, and then from the top of the frozen part it would start to turn black, and continue on its way down to the bottom.

I was playing the the HDMI input to see if that was the issue, and every once in a while when I moved the TV, the image would correct itself, but then after a second or so, it would freeze again, and bleed.

She replaced the TV and was going to throw out this one. I saved it, thinking maybe I might be able to fix it.

Fast forward about 3 days later, and I turned on the TV, and there is no picture. Nothing at all, even if I press the menu button, or change inputs. The screen doesnt flash or anything. So now I do not know where to start.

Also, I forgot to mention, the sound was working originally when I went to go look at it.

I have not had a chance to hook anything up to it yet. Other "Life" things keep getting in my way lol

Thanks for any information, I will answer anything as best as I can.

    UPDATE!

I was playing with the power harness on the back of the TV, and if I pull it out half way from the main board, I can get the LCD to light up, but still no picture.

Are you getting 12 volts at the tcon?
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

I apologize in advance, but from my limited understanding, the tcon board is the one that the ribbons run to? If so, I am not sure how to test it, because the tcon board itself is hidden.
