    Vizio VW47L Tabs or Tcon?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=np-lOGfbL8w

Hello. I added this video link because my set is doing the same thing.
When you power up cold.. it has one or two wide vertical lines on left side which quickly go away. Then the right side looks great while the left is darker and has the ghosting as the image dies away.
After from 30 minutes to a hour... the screen gets better and better and just before its perfect.. there are horizontal black lines on top 25% of screen flashing in and out. Then it is perfect with a picture that is outstanding.
This will play for days I think. I have let it run for 5 hours no problem.

Question. If this is a thermal (heat) problem...why does it manifest itself cold and get better as it runs and runs. Sounds backwards for heat problems.

Question. Is this a tab bonding problem?? Should I change out the timing control board. (see I know what T-Con is ) ?

I need a little clarification on the tab repair. (Have not got down to them yet)
So I find the offending tab with a little pressure on it and then press some silicone pads right over the top of the tabs? And this pad helps the panel transfer heat? The same heat that seems to fix this tv the longer it runs??
So you see I am confused.

I can change boards.. I can solder, I can follow directions. With your help I might even fix this Vizio.

    Thanks

Tab bonds. Flex the screen or squeeze around the edges. To fix it more permanently, you have to take the screen apart and shim the tab bond. I use those silicon pads too and those work great!

Re: Vizio VW47L Tabs or Tcon?

      Thanks Capleaker..

Well I took the black frame off, I took the metal frame off. Carefully stood it upright on the kitchen table and plugged it in. Came up with dark left side as always. I immed took a credit card and carefully pressed on extreme left top tab. Heard a faint snap... and instant perfect picture. And I now see why after the set is on for a while the problem goes away. When the set is off those tab connections shrink just enough to not make solid contact. When it warms up the tabs expand and make the connection.

Now my question... what can I buy locally to stand-in for those thermal pads
that I need.??? If I need to order the real deal.. I will wait.. but well it's all apart on the table as I type.

      Suggestions??

Well bad news for me. Found the problem, but I put it partial back together and the dark screen came back. Not enough pressure on the bad tab. This is where I messed up bad. I removed only part of the frame screws and tried to flex the frame out so I could reach the tab.
You guess it.. the frame shorted out something along the top.

Now I have no video, no sound, But the Backlight is on and the Vizio logo is white as it should be
and power on and off work as they should.

I would say fuse in Tcon board but I think audio would be there and it is not.

It's a $40 thrift store TV but my pride is pretty damaged.
Trolling the videos for ideas.. but sure could use some help.

jam a piece of rubber in there, I also used rolled up Duck Tape for a temporary fix, others use hot glue, foam etc. The best I found were those heat transfer silicon pads. I have one Sanyo TV I fixed long time ago with those pads and it is still going strong.

that sux. Now you need an oscilloscope in order to check the LVDS, or fly blind and start replacing the tcon

I am pretty sure I popped a fuse somewhere. No big snap or anything just lost video. Is is possible for problems in T-com board to kill the audio as well?

Since I have no sound.. I am thinking main board. But of course where I caused the short is right out of the Timing board.. so that is the logical place to start.

              I have had better days.

Re: Vizio VW47L Tabs or Tcon?

Some further testing is leading me to a main board replacement. Or maybe just a fuse.

F1 on the T-com board shows no voltage either side.

F1 on Main board shows 5.4 volts each side

F2 on Main board show 13.1 on one side and 0 on the other.

Anyone know the rating that F2 should be? Says 3 A on it. 3 amp sounds a little robust to me??
Good thing I don't make a living doing this..
Hey my day is getting better... Jumped the fuse and it came alive with blue screen
                Finish it tomorrow.

Re: Vizio VW47L Tabs or Tcon?

Yes I got lucky and just blew a fuse. Not on the p.s board but on the main/tuner board. So word to the wise.. no shortcuts with that metal panel around the screen. You cannot flex it out a little while tv is on. Clearance from tab connections to that frame are very close. In fact that is the cure for this problem.. make those clearances even less... but with non-conductive thermal pads only. (If fact I read one post somewhere suggesting using conductive tape. I would think that would short everything out. and if you read above you will see I can do that without much trouble)

So got some Thermagon 6100 T-flex pads off the bay and cut a pad 3/4 by 1 3/4 and stuck it on the top of the tab. I didn't flex it over the edge because I thought it might stress the connection pulling up on it. Put it all back together.. (power off see how fast I learn) and so far so good.
I also only did the one offending left most tab. The set is going to my son so he knows where I live if it acts up again.

                  Thanks for all help.
Now on to my Samsung 60 inch money pit.

i use bump on's thats what i call em. the things you put behind picture frames that are to be hung on the wall keeps the wall from being scratched. i have had 100% sucess rate with these. just my 2 cents worth. steve

Just a note to retract my comment about the conductive tape earlier. I had not looked at this product. Now I see what it is.. it might just be perfect if this damage goes further than just a flaky connection. It would be worth a try to avoid junking the set.

On my own project.. Vizio has been playing about 6 hours today with out any sign of the original dark left side. Perfect on a DVD player but some artifacts with wire for a antenna and off the air signal. I am hoping that is just the weak signal.

                          Hi,
                          I have a VIZIO E70-E3.
Symptoms: Black screen, no picture, but LED backlights are working.
I probed the power board and voltages are as listed on the board.
                          Main board appears fine, too.
I believe the problem is either a bad T-CON board, or connection to LCD, or bad LCD.
There are two separate ribbon cables feeding the LCD.
If both are connected, the screen is black.

If only the ribbon cable that feeds the right side of the screen (when viewed from the front) is disconnected, the left side of the screen shows picture and...

Relatively new to TV repair - as you will see. Rescued this TV from the curb. No backlights, but I could see an image on LCD with flashlight, so suspected bad LED strips. When I got to the part of lifting the LCD off the frame, it was stuck a little bit from some tape used to hold down a thin layer of foam around the frame. I saw 8 tabs on each side of the LCD that I haven't seen on any of the 3 TVs that I have taken apart before. I immediately thought, wow the engineers that designed this were thinking about the serviceman when they put these lift tabs on here - good for them. So I started yanking...

Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...
