samnsung plasma pn51f5350afxza / cracked panel

I've actually got a few of these. Different model samsung plasmas. They all have the damaged screens, and all seem to just buzz when plugged in. I also see the mainboard optical out light up, but that's about it. I don't even think there is a power or standby led, and none actually seem to power on. I think that's all due to the busted up screens. It seems that the Samsung plasmas with broken screen do not "error out" with a flashing power LED, as do Panasonic?

I know you guys have helped me in the past with similar situations with panasonic plasmas, but I'm not sure if there is any way to isolate good boards on samsung plasmas such as this? Thanks for any information.

The Y buffers are basically guaranteed to be dead. The other boards may be OK. The buzzing you hear is the sustain boards trying to get the panel to light up so something is working.

The loud buzz is because the sustain boards are tying to fire on the panel however due to it being cracked the X and Y electrodes in the PDP have probably shorted out meaning that it wont light at all. This also means that the Y buffers have been killed by the bad panel probably due to taking too much current due to it being shorted but everything els should be ok.

Thanks! I was just confused about it all, because I remember a "blink code" on panasonics from a cracked panel. Then, one one of the sets, I think I wound up setting a jumper on the SC board, and the set would then power on, but with the buzzing sound. I think the idea was if you got that far you could be pretty sure that the boards other than buffers were OK. I guess it's different with Samsung, as they just seem to buzz and no power on light. At least as far as I can tell.

Actually, I noticed after a few plugs/unplugs, with the set upright, the set did seem to stop buzzing and go to a flash code error. Either two or three slow blinks.

Well, that power led is pretty small when hunting it upside down on the bench. I think it may have been blinking all along. Sometimes it does 5 , then no more. Mostly it seems to do 2 blinks. The blinks have fairly long pauses, which are different than the panasonic blinks I'm more used to seeing.

After pulling the cover, I see the led on the mainboard is doing a slow flash, and that's all it seems to do the entire time it's plugged in. Is this any kind of indicator on the health of the mainboard? I've noticed that mainboard led documentation is hard to find in service manuals.

I had another question about cracked PDP. Can it also short out or otherwise break the X buffer?

The X buffer normally is bonded to the screen so you dont have to worry about that but probably has killed it as well.

Thanks Reece. I'm still wondering about that mainboard LED for future reference. I remember on some Sharp LCD's I was working on , that a green flash while on was "normal". I'm assuming that all varies from board to board?

                      No problem mate
For the led it does vary from brand to brand unfortunately.

What parts can be salvaged from a plasma with a damaged display panel?
                        by SurrealMustard
I recently found myself the proud owner of a later-model Samsung plasma (the PN59D7000 for those keeping score at home) whose panel was, unfortunately, damaged in transport. I'm now preparing to part it out, but am curious as to whether or not any damage would have come to any of the components by attempting to power it up with the panel being broken. I read in one Avsforum thread (for whatever that's worth 😂) that the "scan driver boards" (by which I assume he means buffer boards) could be impacted by doing so. Is that actually the case? If so, since I don't intend on selling bad...

Panasonic ZT60 plasma tv with strange behavior and 8 blink code
                        by cloo
I recently got my hands on a 60" Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma tv (european model) that has some strange issues along with an 8 blink code.
It know this tv is getting old but it was once considered one of the best plasmas ever made, and i think it is still holds on to that even by todays standards.

So, long story short. When i first got the tv it had a very bright washed out picture with very raised blacks in all picture modes and i couldn't find the cause in the picture setting menus.
After doing a factory reset this problem was gone and the picture was back to...

LG 49UJ6500 LCD panel lighter band that goes away
                        by howardc64
49UJ6500 LCD panel has a lighter band on top when first powered on. Goes away (or gets much fainter) after TV on for a few min. After powered off for awhile and power back on, same band appears. If powered on immediately after powering off, no or much fainter band. Running the latest firmware.

Disassembled the TV and lifted the LCD panel during testing. Band is on the LCD panel (can see the band on the panel as I lift it slightly) Backlight is perfectly even at the top edge. Double checked LCD panel alignment in the frame and is perfect but since band moved with the panel, its on...

SAMSUNG UN50TU8000F rebooting, backlight ok. No 12v to panel boards.
                        by triplefour
TV flashes backlight then reboots over and over. no image. Client said it used to have image for a bit before rebooting. Got worse over time.

                        tcon is built into mainboard.
Only one cable goes to panel boards.
there is a cable from one panel board to the other that links them.
cost cutting measure that results in us having harder time to diagnose.
removing the link to the second panel board allows TV to stay on with stable backlight but no image.
used cut off tape method to mask 1 maybe 2 pins on the side of the cable that goes to that second panel board....

                        QN55Q60R Service Menu Panel Help
                        by Storyteller12
I had a the above tv qn55q60r that had a bad panel but everything else good. I had another panel here from un55nu6900 with bad leds and melted diffusers.

I put the nu6900 panel in and powered it up and it does work but there are lines vertical lines.

I was trying to change the panel type in the service menu but don’t see my exact panel. Anyway to fix this or someone have similar experience.

the clear picture is the panel type from the service menus on the nu6900. The other 1 is the panel type that was set for the q60r with the bad panel....
