Seiki SE39UY04 Red standby light, not powering on

So I have a Seiki SE39UY04, and when I plug it into the wall the red standby light on the front comes on, but the power button on the TV doesn't do anything. I have opened up the back and none of the capacitors look bulged or necessarily bad. I really don't want to throw this TV in the garbage but I'm not sure how to fix it. Should I replace the main board or power supply board and hope it works?

I can take pictures of the boards later when I'm at home, but nothing seems burnt out or in the wrong spot on the boards.

We will wait for good clear pictures, you need to check and find out if the main board is sending the PS-ON, THE BL-ON to the power supply board or not.

I should be able to post some later today, but in the mean time theoretically would replacing the main board AND the power supply board be a safe fix for it if the problem is the main board is not sending power to the backlights and PS-ON?

So before the TV went out, does the RED LED go off when the power switch is activated? You try both boards but this LED backlights TV do have lots of problem with LEDs going bad.

Re: Seiki SE39UY04 Red standby light, not powering on

I'm not sure if it would disappear before the TV went out because I got it second hand already broken, but I know that it doesn't now. I think the LED should be blue when its working properly also.

If the LED's are bad will I be able to tell with a flashlight test? And if they are bad is it worth trying to fix at all?

We need to find out first as to what Voltages you have at the connectors as I suggested.

Have you figured this problem out?

I have this TV and I have a solid red light on at all times as soon as you plug it in and no picture. Remote does nothing.

              What should I do?

              Thanks

The OP never comes back after I requested for the Voltage readings and pictures.
You should start a new thread amd make sure to put make and model on the thread name, then upload good clear pictures of the whole back side of the TV so we can see all the boards, and pictures of each board.

Re: Seiki SE39UY04 Red standby light, not powering on

Figured I would just post the problem here because once I took the back cover off the problem became very apparent.

I think it is very obvious the PSU is bad. Usually it isn't this obvious.

                    So my question would be.

I have saw this board here.......

                    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Seiki-SE39UY...YAAOSw6dNWT2RS

                    And here.....

                    http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEIKI-SE39UY...EAAOSwXshWsSd3

If you look at the two boards in those eBay listings they are the same in almost every way.

In one of them two leads are connected and in the other three leads are connected in the area that is blown out in my board.

My question is... any idea why that is?

Per shopjimmy picture, that 3rd pin is not used, so the on;y to know is to look at the bottom side of the board that has all 3 pins to see if it is an active pin or not.

Do you think its just possible this guy, when pulling the back off, pulled on the AC input jack and bent it a bit?

I mean, between those two choices in eBay one has three pins connected and a straight AC jack and the other has two pins connected and a bent AC jack.

                              lol

What a choice. I suppose I could spend a bit more money

Edit: I have looked at a seller on eBay who has a lot of these boards and some of them have two and some three. I suppose it is just connected on some and not on others. But the board on the bottom even on shopjimmy appears that that pin hole is just a ground.

BTW, when get the new board, inspection the solder joints on the legs of the transformers to the circuit board really well so it will not burnt up like the old board.

you might just want to re solder them any way , just in case dry joints on this transformer is a common fault in this model .It will prevent the same thing happening to the replacement board.

                                        What is a dry joint?

I fixed one monitor I had called hanspree 28 inch 3ms gaming monitor and it still works to this day. So I know how to solder. I just dont get what you meay by dry joint? Does this mean that though the solder was administered it did not join properly to all areas of the joint?
