Is there a way to repair and test without a TV to test in.

I'm figuring there must be a way to do this. I can't imagine places like Moduslink and others having a thousand test TVs taking up shop space. Power supplies are easy, but what about main boards, Tcons, sustain boards, etc?

I would say Bud M would be the best to advise. I would think one would break each section of the TV down and find what needed to be powered to get just that board that you what to work. Bud M's site LCD TV and Monitor basic troubleshooting guide is a good way to start as that is on going. Of course different manufacturer do things in different ways so that is something one has to consider when repairing different TVs.

I know I've been able to test many main boards on different TVs which used similar boards. I've also been successful testing main boards in larger TVs which use the same board, but different firmware. Sometimes that works but just doesn't fill the entire screen. I'm thinking it would be possible to remap the lvds to a different panel/tcon if the signals are universal. I'm sure I'd have to accommodate for voltage differences though.

Yes, with an oscilloscope you can check LVDS signals and verify basic main board op, but no substitution for real test. Sustain boards can't be tested without the complex waveform generator that is the control board.

Power boards are the easiest and can be tested under load.

ModusLink to seem to test in live chassis - at least one photo on their website shows lots of TV chassis.

What about remapping lvds to a different panel, assuming you had the data sheets and could determine which signals went where. Would that work, assuming the displays were the same size? My idea is to have an assortment of test boards which would connect between the stock lvds cable for the boards I want to test, and the stock lvds cable for the panel I want to test in. The board would just reroute the signal pairs to map them to the panel, and also make any necessary voltage adjustments.

I would imagine that would simply take too much time to be worth it. Anyway, the LVDS signals will probably be of different formats (bit order, resolution, polarity, even/odd swap, etc.), even if they have roughly the same number of pins or similar pin order.

That's what I was wondering. Thanks.

Three 820-01700 32GB Logic Boards Same Issue: Won't Wake From Hibernate
                by ugamazing
I have three identical-spec 820-01700 boards (2.6/32/512), and ALL THREE boards came to us with the same fault, from different sources: The boards don't wake from hibernation with the keyboard or lid, they ONLY wake when you press the power button. I understand this is a very minor issue, but the boards must be fixed!

We will of course begin with the obvious (checking lid signals), but I couldn't help but notice these three boards were all 32GB variants. Has anyone noticed an issue relating to these 32GB boards in particular? I of course don't think it's a RAM issue, but it's bizarre...

How Can I test PWM DM0365R?
                by chth96
                Hello
I have power adaptor(220V/input, 12V 1.2A/output) which has symptom of fluctuating output DC voltage between 11.5V-12.2V.
So I opened its plastic case and when switched it on, I heard constant tik tik sound from inside its PCB.
I measured DC voltage between negative and positive pin of the largest capacitor(400v 10uf) and it was measured contant 300V.
I also measured ESR value of all capacitors and I noticed that one of capacitor(KMG 16v 470uf), which located in the secondary side, have high ESR value(10 ohm),So I replaced it with same specification NXH capacitor....

test active pfc power with lamp test
                by khelane
                Hello
I have a big problem and that is that in some cases when repairing active pfc power supplies I cannot work with a test lamp. I can only get help with 5 volts standby and for starting and starting I have to work without a lamp and this way there is a possibility of parts exploding and other parts being added.
Sometimes with a multimeter test the problems can be reduced to some extent, but I had several cases that had to be tested on and online and recently two varistors exploded. They had terrible resistance because the power supplies were over 800 watts.
                Is there a way...

Mats / mods: detected and repaired GPU fault. Cant seem to test after!
                by chronic519
                Hello.

GPU came in, green lines. Spent lots of time using to get the Mats / mods drive working (found on youtube).
Found issue with a RAM block
                Replaced, green lines gone.
Trying to test again, assuming getting the false positive. Originally had over 1K on a single bank. Now getting tosses low between banks.
Used a good card to test and same results low errors 32+.

I am just search for some form of command to do a full test on the GPU.
I just ran the mats command with my good GPU and passed after roughly 40 min.
                The repaired one, ran...

Apple M1 Boards & Exclamatory Error?
                by ugamazing
We've now created a stack of 10 boards that have the same issue, which we suspect to be CPU-related. The issue is very simple--the board will not boot to anything, only showing the exclamatory sign inside a circle. No amount of DFU/restore, wipe/erase, etc, will resolve the issue. No boards have physical damage. We went ahead and replaced the SSD nands on two boards (one 02020, one 02016) and the issue remained exactly the same. We are considering replacing the CPU on one of the boards using a locked CPU, just so we can see if it resolves the issue.

Has anyone else run into this...
