Thanks for sharing. If it was indeed a design defect, it would be interesting to know if Sony used different part numbers/values from the originals.

      Re: Sony KDL50EX645 Six Blink

Hello guys, newbie here, I have also have the 50ex645 tv with the 6 blinks, I'm looking on my power supply for the smd R602d, but on the board R602A-C are smd but the R602D is just a 1/4 watt resistor that is on the top of the board, not the backside, am I looking at the right one?

              R602A~D are all same resistance.
What does it show on your board?

                Hi Budm,

Thanks for responding. R602 from A-C are SMD resistors and D is mounted 1/4 w. Colors :RED - PURPLE - GREEN - GOLD. Is this 2.7 Mega Ohms ?

Ok. SMD's are 2.7 apparently. Can't find this resistor in any of my scrap boards.

OK, I see now, 602A ~C are SMD, R602D is through-hole resistor under the heatsink. It looks like 2.7M Ohms.

I replaced same resistor but with a 2.7m @ 1/4 and she booted, was a salvage from the Dump, total cost $1, boost to pride "Priceless". I love to keep things out of the dump way to much value going into dump. (This must have been a display model still had blue protective peel away plastic on it)

So I have the same model and same issue...
I am very much a novice but think I can handle replacing a resistor! My only question regarding this particular one is since it resides under the heat sink, how do you get to it? remove the cage? any advice would be much appreciated.

                            thanks

Does anyone know the actual value for R602D? I pulled the part to confirm it is open, but I am still undecided on the actual value. It appears to be Red Violet Blue Gold, which would make it 27 meg. The others R602A,B,C are SMD and marked 2704, so 2.7 meg.

And here is a Spanish speaking gentleman saying it is 27 ohms, but I know you can't believe everything on YouTube

                                https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r94EW6CuJmo

Edit - Nevermind, I seemed to have missed page two which seems to identify this as a 2.7 megohm resistor.

Nevermind, I managed to not see page two and the consensus seems to be 2.7 megohm.

I attached a pic (best I could do) and it looks like Red Blue Green Gold

Strange, but it looks like 2.6 Mohm. Middle band looks blue in your photo.

I guess it just depends on the light - under a bench top microscope the second band appears to be violet, but the third band looks blue. The photo was taken with a digital microscope and video captured, and I agree the second band looks blue. I am going with the 2.7 meg since the SMD R602A,B,and C are clearly marked 2704.

I guess out of curiosity as I didn't see it addressed in this thread is why is the resistor opening and is it offering some protection because of some event? It seemed odd that they used 3 SMD resistors (3mm x 2.2mm) and then the oddball through hole at what appears to be 1/8 watt.

I suspect they used a through hole resistor because of the distance to pin 5 of the ic, They likely could have used another 2.7m smd resistor and then a jumper wire.
They often use a few resistors in series when connecting the high voltage (385vdc) from the main caps dc to an ic. likely to provide some arc protection.

There is a maximum safe working voltage you can apply to a set of resistors dependant on their composition and is why as RJ says, they spread any high voltage across a set of series resisitors which drops the voltage across each of them to a safe working voltage.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

For anyone interested just repaired this Sony Main board TV that had a 2 blink error code, the chassis is a RB2G which is common to quite a few different Sony models. The Ceramic 10uF 25V X7R 1206 capacitor C9114 was shorted which took the smd 2A 0603 fuse out F9101. This was powering the Buck converter TPS54332 which caused no 5V output from it.
See the attached picture of the locations of both components. I also attach the best service manual I found for this board for anyone else in a similar position of trying to repair this main board. It's not specific to the TV model however it gives...

                                            Hello badcaps forum.

I have a Sony KDL-52Z4500 TV that needs a little trouble shooting. History of the TV: I bought it about 14 years ago. One year ago, I took it off the wall to move to another house. During the past year it sat in its original packaging - even with the thin film plastic bag/cover that it gets shipped in, cardboard box and all. Last week I unpacked it to mount it in the garage for my wife's gym that she has setup. Turned it on, set up a chormecast on it for her, and all was good for a week running like always (brownie points for me from the wife ).

Another eazybone post took on this OLED now.

Symptoms. Hit power, white light shows briefly and then 5 blink red code. TCON issue per chart on first picture.

I'm thinking I have a power board issue though, which is one of the options

Now to check pin voltages from PSU to main and PSU to tcon

                                            Pic 2

1 tcon on 12 -- 0v (when I hit power this goes to 3.1 stays for short time and back to zero)
                                            2 bl err -- 0.16
                                            3 evdd on --0
                                            4. Ac off det 3.187
5 power on -- 3.362 BUT fluctuating randomly to 3.352

Panasonic ZT60 plasma tv with strange behavior and 8 blink code
                                            by cloo
I recently got my hands on a 60" Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma tv (european model) that has some strange issues along with an 8 blink code.
It know this tv is getting old but it was once considered one of the best plasmas ever made, and i think it is still holds on to that even by todays standards.

So, long story short. When i first got the tv it had a very bright washed out picture with very raised blacks in all picture modes and i couldn't find the cause in the picture setting menus.
After doing a factory reset this problem was gone and the picture was back to...
