Philips 42PFL3704D/F7 White screen faint image vertical bar line

Hi. I have a Philips 42PFL3704D/F7 that will turn on and stay on with an almost solid white screen. You can barely see the on screen input on the screen so it is broadcasting.

Will a bad T con board be the cause of this?

I will attach a photo of my V420H1-C12 T con. A user with this board had mentioned in a different post about testing two particular locations:

    FP1 and CP5

one being a fuse, the other not sure if it is a fuse (brown surface mount cap).

My fuse read a reading of below 1 ohm setting my meter to 200.

I had to turn my meter to 200k to test the other location. The brown cap dropped and then the reading increased in value like a capacitor would do.

Is there another location I should test on this T con board or is this problem pretty obvious to someone that has experience with a TV showing a picture but it is behind a solid white screen that has a vertical bar going down it that it isn't the T con.

I do appreciate anyone who has the time to help. Thanks in advance.

Re: Philips 42PFL3704D/F7 White screen faint image vertical bar line

You will see gamma test points at top of TCON... Black probe to ground and Red to each test point on meter on DCV 20v

List reading and test point number :

    1 - 13.5v
    2 - 12.0v

    etc etc

Obviously with TCON back in TV and set switched on

This TCON uses an AS gamma chip which are prone to failure.

Thank you for reading my post and your help.

I just noticed a chip on the T con looks pretty bad and one of the leads is different than the rest. I am attaching a photo of that chip.

This TV seems to have had bugs in it and I don't doubt a bug shorted out the chip.

I can still test the 18 numbered and 5 worded gamma test points for their readings, although I really think that chip is going to lead to a new (used) T con.

Is the T con failing something that would cause the TV to show that bright white screen?

Thanks for the help, I appreciate your time.

That's a dead AS gamma IC.

They are replaceable but I would just change the TCON.

Yes TCON fail will indeed cause your symptoms

Pretty sure if you look very closely at that IC it will say AS19 on it?

Again, I do appreciate your help.

From what I can tell, the top of the chip has the following printed on it:

            17868A
            S926

I have looked on the "big auction" website and see quite a few T cons with the same part number of V420H1-C12. One is for an Element brand and is half the cost of the one that says it comes from a Philips tv.

Do you happen to know if these boards are interchangeable with different brands or should I definitely stick with the Philips listed board?

            Thank you for your time.

Either way that IC is toast!

As long as the P/N are the same it will work.... You will find the same components from one tv to another across brands. Fleabay sellers sell the boards and a lot list them only from that set not knowing they will work on others... So as long as its the same it will work.

Thanks for the tip and all the help.

I ordered one for a Toshiba but all the numbers seemed to match up. I'm paying a couple more dollars, but I am buying it from the neighboring state so it should get here sooner.

I WILL post back to report my results in case anyone else may come across the same issues. Fingers crossed I can come back in 3 days with good news.

I just installed my Toshiba labeled Tcon board with the same part number as my Philip's Tcon board and I can actually see parts of the on-screen menu very clearly, but there is still major problems on the screen like before with the large bar and white screen.

Not sure if the part is good or if something else is the issue. I didn't put all the covers and screws back in the chassis so maybe I have a grounding issue and I will go back and give it another try after I compare every number on my "new" Tcon to the original Tcon.

Here are pictures of my screen after I replaced the T con board.

Prior to replacement, the menu was no where near as "clear" as it is now.

Unfortunately, I still have the white vertical line.

Is this a sure candidate of a bad panel and I should give up?

Most likely the panel fault killed the original T-con, or the T-con killed the panel.

                            Thanks for everyone's help.

I should have mentioned some of what is in the pictures are wooden saw horse legs and not lines on the television, however that white bar is pretty clear it's on the panel.

I'll accept defeat on this tv set as far as getting it back working, but there's always that slim chance I might need a part out of it that might work to get another set rolling.

Seriously, thanks for the help everyone offers. Glad that this place exists.

Please note though that I still think the tcon you have bought is faulty.
Just marginally better than what you had before, even if you got a working tcon, and the image was crystal clear you would still have the White and black lines on that part of the screen.

You'd need to check the gamma voltages to confirm.

Just an FYI on the T-con. It came from me and I actually have a Toshiba 42RV535U in my shop that it was checked out in for well over 2 hours so I know it worked. I hate it when I get a TV going only to find that it has additional problems.

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

I got this sharp TV that when I first plugged it in it showed the sharp logo and then went to the input screen. This was about 30 seconds and then it showed white screen. Now I can't see anything but white screen. This has a separate TCON and Main.

The TCON is getting 12V and several parts are as well but the VGH line is only .5Volts which I thought is totally incorrect.

Am I on the correct assumption that the TCON is bad somehow if I'm only getting that voltage or is there something else I should check?...
