    Re: LE40M87BD restarting

On these it's usually the main board at fault. cold solder under processor (BGA) or bad cap near processor.

Yeah. The shield is soldered down; Not done one myself though, so can't be sure on the exact parts that fail.

Aye--Could be the two 1000uF 10V caps under the tinwork cover by the processor.

There's a row of 100uF SM Caps by the power-socket near tinwork that can cause issues too...
--When done--you must replace tinwork--or the processor overheats--there's dead-toad pad from two chips to the tinwork.....

                Re: LE40M87BD restarting

                Yup--Those are the 1000uF caps...

The 100uF ones are the three between the socket and the tinwork, (There's one pink-top poly cap-thats usually OK in the row) plus the couple that run at right-angles to that row and along the bottom of the tinwork--All can be suspect....

Bung a 'Scope on them--You'll see horrible switching noise/ripple on 'em....

Changed the 1000uf caps on the main board still restarting also went into service menu set ready to on and been working now for two days

Thanks to Tom for the pointer on the READY option

The READY option appears to be some kind of watch-dog. If it is turned off, the set will reboot approx every 10 minutes. READY might get turned off by corruption to EEPROM. Very odd fault.

It's 5 years after the last post, but I had the same problem of restarting. After hours of searching and pondering changing caps that did not look damaged, I came across the READY ON solution and it works. If Tom666 is still out there "THX". Well played and figured out. At least I now have schematics which I could not find anywhere else.

                                      by Mirenia
                                      Hi everyone,

got an Acer Helios 500 Laptop (PH517-51) for diagnosing with a strange issue:

The laptop runs for a while (1-2 hours, sometimes less) and then suddenly shuts completely off, like someone pulled the power cord and restarts immediately after on its own.
If this happened once, then the laptop only runs for a few minutes until restart.
This happens regardless while staying in windows or uefi or in a linux environment.

At first I thought of a normal overheating issue, but as I monitored temps with HWInfo64, nothing seems very hot.

Hello, I'm a beginner for micro soldering. Right now I have some difficult to solder a qfn 20, I guess I put too much solder on the thermal-ground pad, the result is a corner of chip wich don't touch the board (last try).

I use a wire solder with hot air, I tin the board and chip before with iron and I use good flux.

I will have to solder a LVDS connector (40 pins, laptop pc), I saw a solder paste in seringe, good quality (it does not scatter).
                                      See the test :

With hot air from bellow the board, that's...

UV solder mask - high temp resistent, recomendation?
                                      by myth77
Can someone recommend any good UV solder mask? But i need a solder mask that will stand high temperetures. The thing is...sometimes i have a bigger cooper ripped from the board, lets say mosfet pad... i reconstract it with cooper sheet, then i "glue it" with solder mask...then i use UV light...and let it cool a bit. After, i try to clean the cooper of extra solder mask..and till that part all is ok. But, when i use a soldering iron to solder that pad/cooper...the solder mask gets weaker or destroyed and finally the pad is ripped again from the board .
                                      Is there any solder mask...

So I though in my spare time I’d set myself up repairing motherboards mainly pin damaged lga1151 sockets types.

I’m using an achi ir sc pro rework station (gave up on my Achie ir6500 - don’t recommend)
