    Samsung PN43D450A2D help needed

Hello! I'm brand new here, but since the middle of last year I became a lurker. My neighbor was having some issues with their TV and we worked out a trade. I'm a handy guy but new to HD TVs so I thought I'd tackle it.

It's a Samsung PN43D450A2D, and I've read about their many issues, but this one I couldn't find an answer on. The TV will turn on, sound and picture, you can audibly hear the boards humming, but the moment I try to play and video, the screen goes black, no backlight, I've checked. The humming also immediately stops.

However, the unit itself does not turn off, as the red indicator isn't lit. I can also verify that when the picture/video goes out, the sound remains. I can have the TV on running static with no problems, and scroll through the menus. I tried to perform the Picture Scrolling option as a test and it immediately kicked out again. I have replaced the X board with a new one from ShopJimmy, after following a troubleshooting video and tips that led me to believe the old one was bad. This did not fix it, and I am not one to be throwing money at hopes.

It's a nice size TV, and with a baby coming soon, I need to get the old TV and entertainment center out of the house to make more room, so the quicker I can get this thing fixed the better.

Lastly, I know I need to update the firmware immediately, but the new unit from ShopJimmy appears to be running the latest version from the Samsung site. Does anyone know if the Samsung site simply doesn't have the correct version available, or is that the latest?

    Can someone help me? Thanks

Posting pictures of the back of your tv showing the boards with clear pictures may help you more with fixing your problem

if you have a digital multimeter, you can test the power supply board, as always be careful working with power supply, HIGH VOLTAGE, on primary side can be deadly.

I'd check Vs/Va on power board.
From the sounds of it, the picture goes out when it gets bright... have you tried the on board test pattern (under "Help" menu)

you need to do some voltage checks are you still getting vs Voltage out of the power supply when the picture goes out. You claim that you can hear the boards working so vs may still be there however the big clincher is that you say you cannot turn the TV off. since you still have audio the power supply is sending signal to the main board to keep it on. when the picture goes out can you see a glow from the panel still? so without video feed do you have a no signal on the screen or anything to that note can you hit the menu button and see anything come up on the screen like the menu?

I will take some pictures and get them up here.

I am a tech savvy person, but my handiness admittedly isn't electronics. I have a standard analog meter, but I'd be lying if I told you I know how to use it. I'm not afraid to dig in and I'm not going to complain about having to repair it, but I will need some help. What does Vs/Via mean? And when it comes to a Primary aide of a board, I don't know which is which.

Freakaftr8 I CAN turn the TV off. The TV itself does not turn off simply because the picture disappears; I have to turn it off. But once I turn it back on, the picture returns as normal, until I try anything video again.

ah that makes sense something is going into protection shut down so soon as he power the TV off and power back on the shutdown is gone. I'm agree with Tom66 something is shutting down on one of the sustain board sounds like

The inside of my TV is identical to the one in this thread. I can't get into my photobucket account to upload my pictures, but if you need exact picture of this unit in my possession, I will find a way.

you can upload pictures via badcaps

heres the test points on your power supply VS/VA you can test in the meantime

you also have a VS/VA sticker rating on your panel that must match up

It's not letting me upload them via my phone, but luckily my password reset for PB came through.

And finally here the multimeter I'm using. If someone can tell me which setting to keep it on and which unit to read, I can get some info.

Also, I know the X Board, but when you tell me the boards you mean, can you tell me which picture they are, so I can associate them with their proper title? Thank you.

the term t-con is primarily use for LCD or LED TVs the term logic board control board are used for plasmas but some people still call Them tcon. as for not being all the upload pictures via Badcaps try using Google Chrome on your phone instead of the internet browser I found that works better

DC 250v range. Black probe to chassis and red probe to any of the two VS outputs on the power supply that feeds the left and right boards. leave the voltmeter connected and run the TV and when the picture goes out see if the needle stays steady

Alright, set at 250DC the VS before the "trip" is off the scale, and reads about 45 since tripped. The VA goes from the 160 mark to nothing, or next to nothing.

The problem with an analog meter is it's prone to mechanical overshoot, if the needle moves too quickly. Can you get a hold of a digital one for this test?
