Great. Bad panels are rare on these models and yours seems OK. I've seen only one on this forum with a bad panel, and that one lit up with lines on the screen. Get the Y-drive and resurrect this Kuro!

Glad to hear the panel isn't suspect! I will replace the Y drive and report back.

Curious if you managed to fix this beast yet?

Re: Pioneer plasma PDP-6020FD won't turn on

It took a little bit to get the new Y-drive but I finally installed it last night and it is fixed!!! Thanks so much for all your help! Between my own procrastination and messing with a bad service tech, the whole process has taken almost 9 months! However, it was the tech mentioning this forum that brought me here, even though I couldn't find anything related to a Pioneer plasma that he said he was checking on in that time frame. Glad to finally get this behind me.

Re: Pioneer plasma PDP-6020FD won't turn on

Thanks! Although frustrating at times, I did learn a lot and I am happy I was able to fix it myself, which wouldn't have been possible without your help.

Unfortunately, now I need to start figuring out how to sell this beast. I got this from my mom after my dad passed away because she thought it was too big for her living room. Even though I know it is a very nice display, not using it for the past 9 months showed me I don't value having a TV this big or this nice, so I figure I should try to sell it and use the money elsewhere. Any tips on resources to sell high end A/V equipment like this?

Old Kuros are difficult to sell. These are great TVs but since they lack the smart features of the newer panels you'll be selling to an enthusiast directly. Try places like AVSForum. Craigslist is probably going to be difficult. eBay may work. They're worth anywhere from $500 to $1,000 if you can find the right buyer.

I highly recommend you connect it all up and watch a good dark movie on it,m at least before you sell it... you might just change your mind. KURO is all about the image contrast, and once set up correctly it blows away even modern display panels.

Mine is doing the same thing, 211 volts on VSUS when the Y drive is unplugged, about -.3 volts when it's plugged in. I have 75 volts on VADR either way. I'm going to order a Y drive board!

Hello out there in Badcap land.

I have a Pioneer plasma that gave me the dreaded 8 red blink and shutdown, I have been trying to trace the failure points. On my last inspection while replacing a Y Sustain Board I noticed on the original and replacement board some missing solder, the points of connection
are from the Digital Address Board and the Buffer Boards. I have included the pictures, should I resolder these points or are they unsoldered intentionally? Any help would be much appreciated.

                                Thank you

Pioneer Pro-FHD1 Elite. Failure to power on.

I'm new to this awesome forum, and have been reading like mad, but have not seen the answer to my challenge.

We bought this Panasonic plasma monitor 16 years ago and it has never been serviced, so all parts are original, and the unit has never malfunctioned -- until about a month ago. The system fails to power on. At first (a month ago) this happened rarely. We learned to unplug for a few minutes to drain the caps, then re-plug, and the monitor would start normally. Now, we plug-in, turn on the main power switch, and the...

I'm starting to re-cap a Pioneer PL-X9 turntable, specifically the motor control board, because although everything tests out OK according to the service manual, the speed wavers slightly despite the quartz lock light remaining on. So, I've decided to re-cap that board since it's the cheapest next step...

Pioneer's passive component naming convention is clear to me. For example, CSZA R22M 35 is tantalum, radial leads, 0.22uF, 20%, 35V.

BUT there are two capacitors on the board which have actual Pioneer part numbers: PCL-042. I can tell they are 0.1uF, 16V but don't...

This forum has been so useful to me and I thank all the people who have helped me in the past.
I'm now in need of some more assistance, I have purchased a Pioneer sg530 graphic equaliser to add to my Pioneer X-G7 hifi system. This equaliser was a factory option on this system but as this was purchased second hand I didn't get a user manual. Searching the internet has been fruitless, can anyone help with a schematic of how this should be wired into the system or possible a copy of the user manual.
                                Thanks
