    Sony KDL-46HX820

I am working on a Sony KDL-46HX820 and am getting the dreaded 4 blink error. The screen comes on and everything appears fine for about 5 seconds and then it shuts down and the standby light blinks 4 times. I'm hoping the issue is with the inverter/LED board and not the panel. I've tested the voltages from the psu and all test within range. I'm wondering if there is a trick to these? a common problem on the inverter board that I can search for or a trick to bypass the failsafe?

I had a similar a issue, with a NX720 and I have found some differences between ICs, on the LED driver board.
Next to each IC there is a test point marked Fail 1,Fail 2,... Compare them and see, if you notice any difference between them.

4 blinks could be your led driver board, not too familiar with led tvs, hopefully theres an easy way to test led driver board, ok I see tibimakai has a test procedure in post #2.

I'm not and expert with these either, but this is how I have found the problem, by checking these test points. Course, it could have very well be the LEDs too, I guess.
I have circled the test points.

I had the similiar problem for this model, what I did was to disconnect the t-con cable from the main board, power on, then no shutdown, turn off tv, and connected the t-con cable again. This fixed it. I guess, was the t-con was too hot cause the tv go protection mode. Hope this can give you a hint.

                  Re: Sony KDL-46HX820

It barely allows power through it long enough to test. After messing with it this morning, I noticed that the top part of the screen goes almost black. It seems like it's probably an internal LED causing the issue. Thanks for the help, but I'm going to scrap it me thinks.

I am currently on a troubleshoot of 46” Sony KDL-46BX450 tv. I came back from Washington to Texas on medical emergency and had to leave all my tools up there. All I have is a couple of screwdrivers and a dvm. I wish to ask the community a troubleshooting question. Please forgive stupid questions as meds I am taking produce brain fog.
I have well maintained Sony KDL-46BX450. It went black one day. After turn-on, I get solid green light and Sony logo in screen center for about 1-2 seconds, then black. No blinking LEDs, no hissing. Flashlight test shows screen characters dimly viewable,...

                    Sony KDL-46HX850 Can't upgrade/update firmware
                    by dkneyle
Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.

Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about...

Vizio E55-E1 bad backlights or bad inverter?
                    by x_orange90_x
I just got this tv today and it appeared to have no backlight on. After taking off the rear cover and checking again in the dark I can see that MAYBE one quadrant is lit.. But still it's quite dim. I was going to check the LEDs with my tester, and I found LED 1 and LED 2 + pins on the wire from the inverter, but I couldn't identify a ground. Nonetheless I tried using a mounting screw on the inverter board and also the chassis as ground but regardless my tester reads 300 which is what it reads when there is no voltage draw.

I don't know how exactly to test the inverter itself. Is it...
